Today we’d like to introduce you to Yana Williams.
Hi Yana, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always been into fashion as a young girl. I’ve always been into eccentric statement pieces that stand out, capture attention and become a conversation piece. I wanted to open an online clothing boutique one day but procrastinated for quite sometime. I second-guessed myself because there were so many online clothing boutiques online. So I had to ask myself, why would my customers want to shop with me instead of shopping with the next. I answered, just be your authentic self, focus on displaying confidence while wearing your clothes and your product will sell itself. I applied for my business license back in 2014, sat on it and in 2020 in the middle of the pandemic, I launched. I believe that it was the best decision I have made thus far.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The launch process was smooth. My struggle would be to keep my customers engaged and get consistent sales weekly.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Currently, I work for the Superior Court. I am a Courtroom Assistant. I’ve been working in the judicial system for 22 years. What I am most proud of is (1) the discipline that I have. What I mean by discipline is that back in 2009, I decided to go back to school to obtain my degree. In 2011, I received my Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice, 2013 I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration, and 2015 I received my Master’s Degree Masters in Business Administration. What sets me apart from others is that I compare myself to a rare diamond, meaning I am rare find, one of one.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t like to look at anything as good luck. I tend to look at everything good as blessings. My Motto! Plan and preparation. I know lots of people say when you have a business idea, just start the business and everything will fall into place. I believe that it is true to a certain extent, however, you must plan and prepare and then execute.
