Today we’d like to introduce you to xueru tang.
xueru, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I got the full scholarship from new york film academy when I was a colleage student in China, at 2014, I decided to come here and try to make my Hollywood Dream come true.
I started from “location manager”, get a good deal from the landlord or location owner is my daily task. I use to drive around the whole LA every day to find the best location for filmmakers.
After a year location manager experience, i got known some producers and directors, so i jump to Production PA and start to be the Line producer for some small project. I had 4 years producer experience in China, did couple movies and shows, but when i came here, i’m back to zero. It’s a totally different system and work style, but the main job is the same, so i start to get some project from China and trying producing here.
When I graduated in 2016, I found my business partner Dmitry Kharchuk, who is my classmate from NYFA. He is a good writer and very talented director, that what i looking for 2 years. Then we start our Hungry Panda Productions Inc after 2 months of graduation.
2017 is our big year, I got the first chance to do an indie feature in US, this is definitely a big step for me. When the investor came to me, with the very low budget, I’m struggling at the beginning. If I want to have a good movie and goes to distribution, it means the whole year, we need give 300% every day working on it. I talked to my partner and said There’s our first chance, nothing about making money, it’s about chance. It will be hard, and we can’t give it up, But if we decided to take it, we need end it beautiful. He looked at me, and we decided to go for it.
At the end of 2017, Nov. We finished our first feature film iBOT, the whole production part, it was streaming the hardest production I never had in my career. With the low budget and huge snow in Colorado, the production is really hard to make everyone happy and to make every frame to looks like what we want. Couple times i have asked myself the same question, Why we do things that we can’t afford it, why we push so much to make everyone so tired. At the end, when all the people who did watch our movie, they all tell me the production value and the quality, the everything is way more than our budget, they can’t believe it. I think that moment i find my answer, we did give 100% to this movie, not just take a project and finish it.
This month 15th, our movie iBOT will release in China, the biggest online cinema, like Netflix, it’s called iqiyi.com. I’m so proud what we had done. And i want to share the news, our brand new studios gonna open end of Nov, it’s called PHYLM STUDIOS, located at downtown LA, S main street. It’s a 12000 SF warehouse filming space, we have 3000 sf 3-side cyc white wall and 1500 sf greenscreen. It’s a huge step for me, and i’m so exciting to have my yearly goal done.
My story is nothing special, and nothing magic, it all about holds it and pushes it, No matter how hard it is, never give it up is my belief.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I want to say, it never have a smooth road in my career, hahahahaha
I had couple times want to give it up, and pack my stuff back to china get my comfortable job back, but everytime when i have this kind of stupid idea, my partner alwasy can find the way make me feels i should keep fighting.
We’d love to hear more about your business.

It’s the newest and funniest Studio in LA.
What were you like growing up?
For me, my interesting always about the movie, do a good movie and better movie. To become a successful film producer is what my passion for. I don’t have a long-term plan, but for the next few years, hope can bring our new project to the cinema and get a qualify for PGA member. That’s what I want to be done before I’m 30 years old.
