Meet William Rassman of Centric Capital Advisors in West LA

Today we’d like to introduce you to William Rassman.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m originally from the upper Midwest, and I grew up playing a variety of sports, my biggest thing was ice hockey. The fast pace and physicality of the game drew me to it, but I stayed for the teamwork and camaraderie, which shaped my childhood. I followed the hockey path to playing hockey in college.

While in college and even before I got to college, I had known that I had an affinity for economics and markets. Going into college and studying economics being drawn to fast pace and competitive things I found a natural fit in Wall Street. I began my career at Smith Barney, where I interned in May of 2008. It was an interesting time to start. During that time, the market was falling, I think that as a foundation is what set me up for having the unique view of wealth management that I do.

After Smith Barney, I worked at a couple of big banks like Merrill Lynch and Deutsche Bank and in 2015, I helped start Centric Capital Advisors where I found my calling in bringing the strategies that the very small portion of the overall public knows about and bringing those seemingly complicated and hard to get to strategies to us regular folks. Since opening Centric, I’ve written a book, I’ve created some software, and I have a full plate of financial projects that are continually evolving.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s been anything but a smooth road – I’ve worked with thousands of people over the past 11 years or so, and I’ve found that the majority of us have rough roads. Personally, I’ve had bumps in the road, I once made a $60,000 trade error – I thought my life was ending. But, in the grand scheme of things, it wound up being a learning lesson instead. I think that anyone pursuing anything worth value has not had an easy road – I believe what I’m pursuing has incredible value. The ups and downs of trying to change the financial world can be rough, but I knew what I signed up for. The setbacks along the way can be just setbacks – but they can be more. Going back to my hockey days, a loss is a loss, no matter what. But, you can take what went wrong in the loss and turn it into a win, and that can make all the difference moving forward.

We are keenly focused on execution, a lot of times financial professionals close an account and simply move on – we are there to solve problems on day 1, and for as long as is needed. I’d say what separates us most is the bespoke nature of our wealth advisory solutions – one-size fits all simply won’t do when it comes to something as important as your wealth and financial well-being.
