Today we’d like to introduce you to Will Medley.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I moved to Los Angeles in 2013 to pursue acting and comedy professionally after working in politics for a number of years.
I’m blessed to have been featured nationally in commercials for brands like Chevrolet, Direct TV, Frito-Lay & Fox Sports. I’ve worked with national and international print campaigns. And locally I’ve been on stage as a stand-up comedian and improv performer.
I act, I tell jokes to strangers, I teach, and I do a variety of other things in between. Why? Because the grind don’t stop! 😉
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s not always a smooth road, but definitely one I’m glad to be able to travel down. Friendship and my belief in God are the main reasons I have been able to make it this far. I say friendship, because without friends, I would have never moved out here. My friends encouraged me to pursue my dreams and constantly told me that I needed to be in LA. Friends provided couches for me to sleep on when I didn’t have my own place, friends took me around LA to auditions when the bus or train couldn’t. Friends gave me positive reinforcement and constant support. There have been dark times where I doubted myself, but those times only last a millisecond because I believe in a higher power and I know that I am walking in my purpose. Many days I have worked two jobs while also going on auditions. I worked a night job from 11pm to 6am and went to teach my Pre-K class from 8am -3pm going on auditions after class, and sometimes during my teaching lunch break. I’ve been deliriously tired at times, but I just keep going because I refuse to stop. This attitude helped me coin the phrase “Grind Don’t Stop”. It’s more than a phrase for me, it’s a mentality. Every obstacle I face whether it’s Triumph or Disaster, I treat them both the same and remind myself that… The Grind Don’t Stop!
Medley Entertainment – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I decided to bet on myself and established Medley Entertainment. Once I knew I wanted to move to LA and pursue a career in entertainment, I knew that I needed to brand myself. I am most proud that I own my company, that my talent makes the company go, and that a kid from Springfield, IL came to LA when most people don’t even leave our town. What sets Medley Entertainment apart from other companies is that you get a motivated individual who will do whatever it takes to deliver a service without sacrificing their morals to do so. If that means it may take longer to make it in this industry, so be it. But I will always remain true to myself; and in return, you get the genuine article.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I currently do not have a proudest moment of my career. This is not a knock to anything I have achieved thus far. There are many things that I am grateful for, many things I’m proud of, many things I could or many others would say would be their proudest moment. For now, I’m focused on what’s next, and I’m excited to bring my own creative projects to life. Right now I’m working on two series: How to Make it in LA, and America’s Best Barbers.
