Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitney McCoy-Cooper.
Whitney, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started off blogging about three years ago. I have always known I wanted to write, I loved to write even as a little girl. Blogging was something fun for me to do and I never minded if no one read it but it was about fulling something on the inside.
Since then, I have managed to launch two businesses. One as a strategic consultant and a cosmetics business. I hold an MBA with a concentration in Project Management, therefore business has always been a passion of mine. Starting a business this soon was not something I would have even dreamed about this soon.
Anyone that has known me for a while knows I have always kept my lips with a lot of moisture. I have tried several brands of lip products and nothing worked. I either broke out, my lips were too sticky, or I did not like the smell. In November of 2019, I birthed my cosmetics business. I started off with Vegan lipgloss and since then have expanded to matte liquid lipstick and lip balm. Many people ask will I do other makeup items and at first, I would say no. But in this life, I have learned to let the chips fall as they may.
My future goals include well following me and finding out. But a hint, you will “SEE” more of me.
As I continue to grow, I continue to learn, and I always ask myself what can I do next. I want to be able to look back in 20 years and say WOW what a time to be alive.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Entrepreneurship is what you make it. You learn you grow. It is trial and error. I think the most important thing is to surround yourself with good businesspeople and do your research. The hardest part was the self-doubt. What if no one buys my items, what if they leave bad reviews. Getting through that is something I work on daily.
Please tell us about NoirGirlbyJWhit.
NoirGirlbyJWhit is focused on ensuring that people feel their best. Whether that is by adding a pop of color on their lips or helping them build confidence.
As I break into the beauty industry, it is not about selling products only but the mood. How do you feel when you wear the products, did you smile more, did your mood change, did you do something different? I went through a rough time in my life and I recall for 30 days, I did not add one single drop of lipgloss on my lips. The day I woke up and got myself together I added some gloss and instantly felt better. I want people to feel better.
I am most proud of launching this brand while working full time and being in school. I am exhausted most days but when my customers say thank you so much you helped me step out of my comfort zone with a new color or I got my package it makes it worth it.
I think the thing that sets me apart is I don’t think I am any different from the next person. Just a girl with a vision that decided to execute.
I take no credit for anything I absolutely owe everything to GOD and the people he has placed in my path to challenge me and push me past the comfort zone.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I believe GOD has played the biggest role in my business. God has placed some amazing people in my path and these people have simply blessed me from my coach Morgan, my life strategist Nicki, my bestfriend(s), my mom, my aunt my nana and last but not least my husband. There are many more, but you would be reading all night.
