Meet Westxside

Today we’d like to introduce you to Westxside.

Hi Westxside, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started off as a beatmaker when I lived in Boston, MA in 2012. I was later introduced to Djing by a friend of mine who was a DJ at the time. We pretty much switched places, his love for producing grew and my love for DJing also grew. I wanted to take it Djing serious so I saved up some money and bought my first DJ controller which was a Pioneer DDJ SR. It was exciting and nerve recking at the same time, I didn’t know what I was doing but Youtube university helped me a lot! lol

I’ve had some bumps in the road throughout the years but luckily, I’ve done a few Gigs, Headlined a show (Round 2) and by the grace of God, consistency, work, and faith, I was able to land a residency with the Orlando House Party. Im Grateful that the Owner/Dj Dennis Mero believed in me enough to give me a shot. We have a few shows lined up for the remainder of the year and I can’t wait to show up and have fun!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life got a little rough for me, back in 2014 I had to move back to Florida and sell my equipment…worst feeling ever. From 2014-2017 I didn’t do anything which was a dark part of my life. The part that traumatized me the most but also changed my life was when my younger brother asked me if I had songs on SoundCloud, I told him no. At the time, I had a beat tape out but it wasn’t making noise at all. He told me that he was showing people my beats and that made me happy to know that he was supporting me. My brother requested that I released songs, he wanted me to rap. A week after we linked up, he passed away from a drug overdose…and then my life changed.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Lol, sheeessshh, well I’m a DJ, Podcaster, Beatmaker and Rapper when I feel like it. I’m known for Djing and Podcasting. I’m mostly proud of the DJing because of the great remarks I’ve gotten from people. Hearing that my song selection and transitions are amazing makes me happy.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Everything that has happened for a reason. I will say this, through each experience good or bad, I’ve excelled and learn a lot.
