Meet Wendy Watson of Clearstream Agency in El Segundo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wendy Watson.

Wendy Watson believes organizations, like individuals, are defined by core values. There needs to be a higher calling to remain truly motivated and to obtain meaningful success. Although the Clearstream client roster is diverse, ranging from major corporations to early-stage startups, the common denominator is that the agency aims to make a difference – to do its part in bettering humanity. She is inspired by the Rumi quote ‘Let the beauty of what you love be what you do.’ “Success is never guaranteed, but failure IS guaranteed if you and your team do not have an emotional investment in the company that you are building,” adds Watson.

Prior to founding Clearstream Agency, Watson spent 18 years working at global Omnicom PR firm, Porter Novelli, where she served as Executive Vice President. She worked in both their east and west coast offices, and literally ‘grew up’ at the firm, rising through the ranks and eventually being named the youngest SVP in the company’s history. She was fortunate to have clients spanning three continents, working with global companies based in Asia, Europe, in addition to North America. In fact, some of those clients followed her to Clearstream and the company continues work for them still today.

Has it been a smooth road?
Founding a new company is accompanied by a sea of setbacks. Oftentimes the business you build will inevitably be about 10,000% different than the original idea you began with. We work with many entrepreneurs and startups. I have found that successful entrepreneurs are Darwinian, in that they adapt to the changing market conditions or die. Expect to stumble and embrace the process; every company changes, but it’s mostly how you adapt to that change and those micro failures along the way that determines success. You have to be willing (and prepared) to fail and let those setbacks serve you and be the catalyst for personal growth.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
To me, Los Angeles is the best city in the world, perpetually 70 & sunny, where the mountains meet the sea. Perfect weather and outdoor options aside, I love that LA is not just a city, it is a patchwork quilt of communities where everyone can find their home. I love that the city of angels is a city of dreamers. I embrace the openness here to be your true self and follow your passion without judgement. What I dislike about LA is how spread out it is and how public transportation is the exception rather than the norm, but Angelenos make up for this with their passion for electric cars and other modes of green transportation!
