Meet Waters Water5

Today we’d like to introduce you to Waters Water5.

Waters, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Grew up in Evanston, Illinois. I started writing songs when I was ten after my parents where divorced and my cousin Wayne was gunned down. Writing was my way of coping with my world crashing in around me. My siblings were all in the arts and I took to singing, having been around it all my life. Since no one wanted to sing my songs, I sang them myself. I guess my story was meant for me to sing at the time. Music and God has always been my go to escape so to then find out that others enjoyed my songs also I decided to create a career around it. So much life has been lived from the age of ten until now, it’s been an interesting journey to say the least. So now my music which was once very cookie cutter and predictable is now very abstract and edgy. Both dark and ambient, heavy and light. However, the only way you will truly understand is by listening closely and or watching interviews.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Absolutely not. The hardest thing to do is to get other to believe in what you’re selling. I think all salesmen can relate to that. Having the budget to promote, shoot videos, be in sessions, etc. is all time consuming and cost money. There is always something to invest in financially when it comes to being an artist. This type of work is not for the faint of heart but pays off when you actually do get a die hard fan on your side to help you promote organically because your music has personally touched them. That to me is worth more than money and will be able to take with me in spirit when I leave this world. Knowing I left a lasting impression on someone’s heart through music is a major goal of mine.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Water5 (Waters) is my legal last name. We are called Waters because we are a group of individuals that are selfless in our creation of music. The latest project 5 Ponds was created with little to no money. All we had was an idea, we all found each other and made the idea come to life. We are known for making some pretty amazing music. 5 Ponds is what I’m personally most proud of right now since we released it August 30th the day after Michael Jacksons birthday to celebrate. I believe what sets us apart from others is our sound, our heart to help others, our willingness to keep going no matter how hard the fight and our humanitarian work.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is being able to see people enjoy our music, being able to help not only our families but community and nation through our music. Being able to give back with words of encouragement, and be an example of how being yourself makes the right impact on this world.
