Meet Walter Martinez of Dj Wall-E in Alhambra

Today we’d like to introduce you to Walter Martinez.

Walter, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Technically I started end of High School my senior year. I say technically because I bought myself a dj controller but didn’t know what I was doing. I then asked people around if they knew any dj’s, I was looking to learn. A friend of mine told me about a dj school in west LA called Scratch Dj Academy. I started attending the school end of 2010 and finished in 2012. I took some time off because I was also pursuing my B.A. in Comm at CSUSB. I have now been djing for eight years.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I would say it has been pretty smooth for the most part, especially considering what horror stories I’ve heard my friends overcoming. I think the biggest struggle was society accepting my decision and that includes my parents (my decision being solely focused on djing)

Dj Wall-E – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Dj Wall-E is my Dj name. I Dj events ranging from weddings, birthdays, company parties and bars/clubs. I’d say I am most known for my music selection and skill. I love making people dance and because of my affinity for djing I also like showing off my craft. I am most proud of taking what I learned from Scratch and applying it to my business tenfold. After Scratch, it really has been just me working on making my business the best that it can be. The thing that sets me apart is I treat every event on a very individual basis and I make sure that I cater as best I can to it.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success for me is loving what I do and being able to get paid for it. So as far as I am concerned, I am very successful. I love djing and people pay me to do it.
