Meet Vyvon Steele of Primerica Financial Services North America

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vyvon Steele.

Vyvon, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Becoming an entrepreneur was always in the cards for me. I knew as early as six years old that I wanted to be my own boss. Having to grow up very early in literacy support of an amazing single mom to four children became a daily task to handle all the literature work. My mom struggled with reading and writing but with hard work and dedication on her part, I taught her to read and write at the age of 47. I started my first school supervised work experience at the young age of 14 and even then I was thinking of was that I could make it better.

Growing up in South Central LA where many fall victim to the streets or a life of crime, I used sports and school events to keep my mind occupied. An idol mind is a devil’s workshop. Excelling in basketball, softball and team caption of my academic Pentathlon team it was all looking great. At 16, I got pregnant with my daughter and from the moment of conception, I knew life as it was planned was drastically going to change. This is the season in which I found that outer voice, the boldness, that I will not be defeated attitude and most importantly, I had to step my game up. Getting married at 19 to my husband now of 25 years and moving out of LA to the Inland Empire for a sudden change of pace. I’m pregnant with child number two and where I’m from all the statistics pointing to my life being that of a controlled government program, section 8 housing and if I’m lucky a man that will stick around. Well, I’m what they call the statistics buster got married young of which were still going strong. Started my first business of owning and operation a 24-hour childcare home which allowed me to be a full-time mom while still making a 6 figure income and successfully putting all three of our children through four years universities. What I’m most proud of now is the Journey that I’m on now with Primerica financial services. I’m currently a Junior Broker and seven years in and still finding my way.

Has it been a smooth road?
Being in Primerica has not been a been smooth ride for me but then again nothing has been. They say pressure bust pipes and some of the biggest and brightest diamonds are created under pressure. Some of the struggles I currently face is finding that person like me. Someone who is dedicated, self-driven, hungry for change and when all the walls seem to be closing in they just won’t quit on why they started. I’m in a business that requires you to pour into people which is not hard for me but people come with whatever baggage their past has presented to them so mentally is where the battle is. I have been beyond blessed that I’m under the direct mentorship of the great Gary D. Kornegay Sr and his wonderful family. The guidance and support that they give me and constantly pour into me and my team makes the impossible possible.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Primerica Financial Services North America story. Tell us more about the business.
Primerica is a business that gives people the opportunity to own their own business by teaching basic financial strategies like creating generational wealth through life insurance, buying term life insurance and investing the rest and paying yourself first. This company gives you the opportunity to make all your dreams become a reality beyond your wildest dream. Our founder of our company said,”it doesn’t matter where you’re from will give you a chance to be somebody.” I know we all want to be somebody and not only pass through this world but make a major impact where people lives will be changed forever because I said yes to the opportunity. What I’m most proud of is knowing that I’m making a difference in people lives for the better that will affect their children’s children. I’m grateful for the support of my mom Paula Tate who is and has always been my biggest cheerleader, my husband Anthony Steele who supports my goals and dreams, my three amazing children Jasmine Wyatt-Harris, Anthony Steele Jr, Christian Steele, my three grand babies and lastly my amazing team and all my Primerica family. It takes a village and this is a true example of what a village looks like.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Primerica has made great strides of its 43 years of existence. We currently have over 100+ individuals who make over a million a year in income. Not lifetime cash in a 12 month period. We’re listed in Forbes magazine as one of the best places for women to work. I believe the tools that we have today in terms of social media has provided us the opportunity to do things bigger and faster all while staying within the integrity of what our company stands for which is educating our middle. Class and lower middle-class families on financial concepts. We sit knee cap to knee cap and lay these strategies out to provide an experience that we hope they will apply and keep with them forever. Insurance in my opinion has now shifted to a younger generation of people who are eager to learn, big dreamers and are fearless.
