Today we’d like to introduce you to Vince Corona II.
Vince, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My uncle was the first one to really get me into photography several months ago, he let me use one of his cameras for a photography class I was enrolled in, I end up failing the class and still wanting to use the camera. I continued shooting and took some advice to post my photos on Instagram, so I made a second account but wasn’t gaining the attention I thought it would so I deleted the account and made my personal account my photography account since I already had about 800 followers at the time, My first set of photos really launched me into this monochromatic state and I just rolled with it, my good friend JP helped me model and this was the point where I began taking it seriously, moving on to shooting faces like SlumpyKev, MadeinTyo, and then landing myself on hypebeast mag with the help of a good friend and artist Emani22.
I started to realize that I was doing something special and that I loved what I was doing. Things kept going I continued to shoot and I was fortunate to have opportunities open up like shooting Portraits of Asspizza and WhiteTrashTyler also Marc Jacobs and Trinidad James. Then down the line, I attend the Guess jeans event with no media pass or anything and I’m still able to find my way backstage to grab some photos of Kehlani, ASAP Nast, and Kristopher Kites. This was a huge turning point for me and I was like how can this get any better, recently I was fortunate to be invited to Kanye West’s Sunday service in Watts at the beginning of the month snagging some insane photos of Kanye and Brad Pitt. And now I’m just getting ready for whatever God has for me next!
Has it been a smooth road?
I’ve never been given a media pass or even been invited to an event other than Kanye Wests Sunday service and that was very recent, I’m always looking for events to attend and I’m always looking for a way backstage to grab that photo I want. I pretty much plan to run into someone famous.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m a 20 years old black and white photographer that loves music and fashion, and what sets me apart is my drive, I’m going out there and getting it done because I know sitting at home won’t get me anywhere. I’m currently working on a series of film photos that I’m developing and printing myself at the college I attend.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see photography advancing in so many ways, I’m seeing film already making a huge comeback with the whole gunner stahl wave. New cameras are always coming out it’s hard to stay up to date.
