Meet Simply Vika in Studio City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Simply Vika.

Vika, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m a Russian-Israeli rapper and singer, based in LA. I was singing practically my whole life and came from a musical family. But my music career only started two years ago, after I finished my military service in Israel. As a woman in the combat forces, I struggled a lot with chauvinism and discrimination. I needed to prove myself twice as harder than the man serving with me and nothing was ever enough for some people. After I finished my three years in the service, I kept seeing discrimination all around and I decided that something needs to be done.

Growing up, I only had my mom to take care of me, and she did it all by herself, without asking anyone for help. She is the strongest woman I have ever seen and she is the proof that everyone can do anything they want. Leading by her example, I decided to fight for equal rights and help woman around the world understand that they can do anything they want.

Together with that, I also fight for freedom. I believe each and every one of us should do what makes them happy, follow their dreams and don’t let anyone stand in the way.

Women often hear from man that they are nothing without them, and I’m here to stop this. Children often give up their dreams because the parents won’t accept. People hiding their true selves because of fear of not being accepted by society.

THAT’S WRONG. And I am here to make this RIGHT. Through my actions and music, I am making a change!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s never a smooth road. It’s not easy to put yourself out there, deal with rejection, haters or even worse – when people simply don’t care. It’s a daily struggle to keep going even if nothing goes like you want. Especially nowadays, when everyone cares about social media more than they should. How many followers, how many likes, subs or whatever – and that’s supposed to determine whether you are good or not. It’s TOUGH.

Putting your message out there and not getting any attention equals to performing to no crowd. Takes some strength to understand it’s a matter of time and hard work, you just need to keep going. Never stop.

Simply Vika – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I help people. That’s my main focus to my music. I didn’t fit my message to my music, I fit my music to the message. Every song had a meaning, sad or happy – there is a message, some of them are clear and simple and some of them are hidden in between the lines. My first single “Stigma”, was written to announce that I AM HERE TO BREAK THE STIGMA, and that’s what I’m all about. I inspire people to be different, to be unique and to listen to their hearts. Our society is pressuring, there are always expectations we need to match, always a “code” that people expect us to follow. And stereotype is the hardest thing to break because it’s way stronger than people realize.

It’s 2020 and some people still think that gay people can’t marry, woman can’t make the same amount as man and the color of your skin say everything about you.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Every time I get a chance to help someone, face to face or through messaging. It’s fulfilling to know that I had a chance to support someone or help solve a problem. I’m just happy that I’m doing this, I’m proud of myself for not giving up although it’s hard, I’m proud of myself for the hard work I do and I’m proud to be a part of the change!
