Today we’d like to introduce you to Vicky Hoang and Sam Lam.
Vicky and Sam, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
As a graduate of FIDM, I aspired to be a successful designer. Upon graduation, I had worked for various design companies doing various odd jobs. In one of my last design and freelance project, I made an acquaintance with Sam whom was a salesman for an embroidery company at that time. Both our careers at that point were at a standstill and we both aspired to do more in the apparel industry. We decided collectively with a business plan and pool our resources to launch our own business. Sam & I started our company in 2004, formally known as H2O Lab, Inc. As most small business go through growing pains, we worked hard and long hours to build a trusted client base. We stand behind the quality of work and prompt delivery of our product. We survived the ups and down of the apparel industry. With continuous innovation and new product ideas, we transformed into our current company Azureliq Inc.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Small business in Los Angeles is best described as a roller coaster ride. This is especially true for the garment and apparel industry. From the period of 2009-2010, due to economic down turn and less consumer spending, our company struggled financially. Many of our stable customers suddenly find themselves selling less of the product which we helped them create and produce. Many brands that we helped built did not survived this down turn. Even the major brands were struggling to pay for our service. These low trend carried on for a few years until the industry rebound again. All through these harsh time, we continue to produce quality goods and prompt delivery of our products as noted for repeated business from our loyal customers.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
(Vicky) I grew up in a small village in Vietnam. We lived a very simplistic and farming life. Every morning when I wake up, my little brother and I would run out to the river and jumped in. We would stayed there played with the water until we got in trouble. As kids on a farm, we were taught at a very young age to work hard and strive for excellence in any tasks we perform. Family value and family unity are critical to our core value and help build the strong characters I possess today.
(Sam) My favorite memory from childhood stems from walking home the first day returning from Kindergarten in Long Beach, CA. It taught me to be independent and strong. I understood at that young age I need to work hard to be successful. There is no free ride in life. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step. Every step I took since that first walk home from school has taken me to where I am today. Every step brought precious experience and lessons of life.
