Today we’d like to introduce you to Janessa Marie Sanabria.
Janessa Marie, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started off working in retail at the age of 18 and was fascinated and wanted to learn more. I was originally into skin care then branched off into make-up when I got my job at Mac. Soon after joining Mac I had my first client, her name was Melissa and she was a burn victim. I could tell she was nervous about showing her face since the day before she had it covered and only showed her eyes, I knew it was my job to make her feel beautiful. When I was finished she had tears in her eyes and I knew I had discovered my passion, making people feel beautiful and confident. That’s when I went on my journey from San Diego up to Los Angeles to pursue my dream career as a professional makeup artist and esthetician. Since moving to Los Angeles I have been able to do some networking and meet some reputable people such as Mac Daddy and Blac Chyna. I am now enrolled at My Beauty Mark Academy in Pasadena.
Has it been a smooth road?
They say the path to success is never an easy road and that’s what I have been learning throughout my journey. The makeup industry in Los Angeles is tough and very competitive, I came out here with only my car and my dreams then slowly began building up product supplies and filling my kit with all the name brand products for clients which was a struggle in its own on top of trying to provide for my family.
Tell us about your childhood, what were you like growing up?
As child, I was very charismatic and artistic. I grow up attending at a performing arts school, from elementary school throughout high school. I was considered the tall, loud, silly center of attention girl who always made everyone laugh, including my teachers. I’ve always been outgoing, never shy and always participated in many school activities such as cheer, choir, dance, basketball and most of all into fashion. I enjoyed doing makeovers to lend a hand to people who that thought they were insecure about themselves but yet didn’t know about their beauty.
Is there a specific memory from when you were younger that you really miss?
I was always a thrill seeker as a child. I love scary movies and roller coasters. My favorite memory from my childhood was when I used to take trips to six flags and this one time, me and my family we were on the batman ride and the roller coaster automatically stop due to a power outage. We were hanging upside down for 5 minutes and everyone was screaming and I giggling uncontrollably because when I’m nervous or scared I giggle. Then soon so after the roller coaster resume and we all got off the next stop
What are your plans for the future?
Currently, I am attending school to be certified as a master makeup artist and a licensed esthetician, which is a skin care therapist. I am a licensed cosmetologist but I strive more. I work with everyone and homeless and or burn victims because I love the fulfilling their hearts. At the same time I want to work for productions sets and behind scenes as a set makeup artist. And once I graduate and licensed I want to work in a dermatologist clinic to work on medical skin conditions. Then later on into the future I want to open up my own cosmetic line and skin care and my own salon/spa
