Meet Venice Artist: Taylor Christensen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Christensen.

Taylor, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
What makes me different is that I didn’t physically travel very far to get where I am today, I have been usually seen in front of my computer since I was 2. My journey is focused on getting the tools to depict the characters and settings that I can imagine accurately. I’m slowly learning the importance of understanding light, colors, anatomy, perspective, etc in an illustration. Even today I’m still in front of my computer, studying and practicing in order to improve my craft.

Has it been a smooth road?
I am very thankful to be supported by my family who encouraged me to keep drawing and improving my art. The biggest struggles I have faced is trying to fully understand the fundamentals of the art. I have also realized making art as a profession involves a delicate balance of doing work for yourself and work for clients. It’s important that I do artwork that is for me in order to keep my passion for it.

Has there been people or an institution that has played a pivotal role in your career?
People that helped me with my career the most have been my parents who supported my interests and connected me with like-minded people. Others who were essential to helping me understand the many technical aspects of learning art were Craig Mullins, Anthony Jones and the hundreds of artists I’ve watched create art.

What kind of work do you look forward to most?
My favorite work is creating character illustrations for video games, movies, and card games. I like to have a role in creating the characters and environments that populate those worlds.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
On one side, if I had to start over I would start taking the learning process to art a lot more seriously at an earlier age. On the other side, I feel like life is a learning process and if I started over I might not have the same outlook on life as I do now.
