Meet Vaibhav Handore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vaibhav Handore.

Vaibhav, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As funny as it sounds, my journey towards Cinematography started because I owned a small handycam. It was my college project, where we had to shoot a short film, and just because I owned the handycam, I was the cinematographer for the project. This is when I realized I had a natural eye to frame things. This became the driving force for me to start studying art. Started with photography, capturing a single frame at a time and then converting a picture into 24 frames per second. As the art kept growing on me, I had the urge to learn the Hollywood way, which brought me to New York film academy in Los Angeles.

Has it been a smooth road?
I come from a surrounding where everyone around me had a steady and stable job. But I never had the patience to sit on a chair or do the same routine work every day. So the main challenge for me was to keep faith in myself and take this high road with all the risk and competitiveness.

But these challenges looked mere with the help and confidence I received from my family. Usually, the place I come from, Children are forced on to take careers which their parents feel are more secure and steady. Unlike that, my parents let me choose what I wanted to make of myself and trusted me with it. Though Challenges never end, new challenges take over the old. My aim right now is keeping myself out there and keep working.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I believe that camera is an extended part of a film. Telling stories through camera is what I specialize in. Bringing out emotions through my pictures is what I think is my contribution to any film. Telling a story in a way it is supposed to be, neither more nor less is what I believe in.

I have been meeting people from various cultures and backgrounds in India and in the US, and I have always tried to abide few things from each of them. That sets me apart from others in its own ways.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Los Angeles is the best place to start your career if you are into Filmmaking background. Almost every third person you meet here is related to filmmaking in some ways. The most important rule in filmmaking is to know people, no better place than LA. People all around the world come to LA with dreams in their eyes. You meet people, you make contacts and start working together. Los Angeles has not disappointed me.
