Meet Tyson Pruong of Konsept in Santa Ana

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyson Pruong.

Tyson, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Well, my story started when I was born in 1989 but I’d rather not take it that far. Growing up in one of the roughest neighborhoods in Santa Ana I got into a lot of trouble young and really didn’t do well in school. One of my many outlets included sports, art, and music that helped keep my mind from the terrible things around me. When I was 21 in and out of jail, I was sent to an adult school full of other probationers and paroles. At this school half the day we’re academics and the other life/job skills, upon graduating I realized I wanted more in my life, this school changed my life. I started Konsept back in 2011, an art collective based out of Santa Ana filled with musicians, photographers, artists, filmmakers, clothing designers, etc. Over the years I had the opportunity to work with hundreds of artists producing events, concerts, music festivals and all type of shows. My main objective though was to provide and build for our culture here in Santa Ana. Over the years I worked with over 40 different artists a part of our team. I helped build their careers and they helped produce the events.

Has it been a smooth road?
Without struggle there is no success, of course, I’ve butted heads with a few but the great thing about our team is it’s always family. Family fight but they eventually make up. When dealing with artists, you’re dealing with personalities and if you can’t handle that the right way than you don’t deserve to be a leader. Yes, I’ve been put in my place a bunch of times but I learn from my mistakes and grow from it organically as a family should.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Konsept – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Konsept is a company dedicated to serving musicians, artists, and filmmakers with a wide variety of services including event coordination, production, and marketing. We do everything from art shows to fashion shows, art walks to music festivals, content creating to artist development. We pursue it all, my title not only the founder but as well as the project coordinator. I find the opportunities and help them create theirs. Proud moment has to be the now, watching people that were a part of my team create their own identity by creating their own movements and teams around them. It’s like being a grandfather and watching your kids grow and have kids on their own. Knowing that I built leaders within my community, that alone outweighs any successful event, any award, any recognition I’ve ever received. I’m not sure what sets me apart from others if I could guess maybe it’s my ability to want to give more than take. I learned that real young coming from nothing and always giving back to my community.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love everything about it except traffic nobody likes traffic.
