Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler La’Cole.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
From a young age, I found a passion for fashion from the latest trends to the classics. As a teen, I can remember sketching my formal gowns for my mother’s seamstress to make for me. From these sketches, friends and family began to notice I had an eye for fashion and the request for designing formal gowns began. At the age of 20, my daughters grandmother gave me my first sewing machine and taught me the basics about sewing. I’ve always had the ability to take anything and make it more attractive whether it’s from a pair of old denim or sneakers. From that, I started selling customized sneakers and skirts that I made from vintage denim jeans.
Has it been a smooth road?
I guess you can say the obstacles I’ve faced were wearing too many hats while maintaining a full-time job and doing all the footwork alone. I knew I wanted to be the face of my own business and at times, it can be challenging to keep it all together with only 24hrs in a day. I know this is my calling and it will eventually pay off.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
In the spring of 2019, I launched Embellished by Tyler. Embellished was created to make people feel good in the latest trends and customized denim. My long term goal is to extend from online to a storefront styling boutique where customers can come in and be styled personally with my own designs.
In the fall of 2019, I started Urban Market Night to help bring exposure to other small business owners like myself. This event is held four times a year bringing over 20 vendors together under one building. The Market night vendors range from fashion to food and the event is typically held in Long Beach, CA with free admission.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
