Meet Tristyn Pease

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tristyn Pease.

Tristyn, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I came to LA in 2010 looking for work as a storyboard artist in animation. Instead, I ended up working for a storyboarding agency called Frameworks that represents 20 to 30 artists. We work for advertising agencies around the city, providing everything from concept sketches for print campaigns to storyboards for live-action or animated commercials. In a given week, I’ll work for as many as three different clients, so it can be a bit of a juggling act. But I get to work on new projects with different people every week and that really keeps me engaged. Plus, I get to explore new parts of the city. Hot take: The Valley is the best part of LA. Yeah, I said it!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh man, learning to deal with that LA traffic! I’m from the suburbs of DC, which has its share of congestion, but I had no idea what I was walking into with LA. That 101/405 interchange is a killer! I’ve found the best strategy is to leave early and pack a podcast.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I think I’ve gotten a reputation as a speedy artist. Which can be a blessing and a curse of you have a bunch of tight deadlines in a row. My poor hand can only go so fast! I think all of us over at Frameworks have developed a knack for working with our clients instead of just for them. It’s a collaboration and the more you get to know each director’s style and needs, the more you can help support the production instead of just delivering storyboards.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Haha, I have a distinct memory of the first time I successfully colored inside the lines. I must’ve been 4 or 5 and I remember thinking “Oh man, I am REALLY good at this art stuff!” It must have affected me deeply.
