Meet Trish Lanae

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trish Lanae.

Trish, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m a 100% self-taught braider. I started by doing weaves on myself when I was 15 years old. I used to braid beehives and sew my own weaves in high school. I love the versatility of braids so I started doing braids on myself when I got to college. In 2017, I started braiding different styles on myself and fell in love. People would always ask me to do their hair, so in summer 2019, I decided to braid hair. I love making people feel good about their hair while promoting healthy hair.

Has it been a smooth road?
Honestly, I haven’t ran into any problems. I really just braid hair for fun. I love to see the outcome of each style. I love talking to my clients. I think a challenge could come up if I get burned out from doing hair. I believe you must always love what you do to have genuine peace in your life.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I specialize in doing knotless box braids which are lightweight, low-tension braids that offer versatility. I do feed in braids, box braids, and weaves. I’m most known for my box braids. My clients say I have light hands and their braids are super lightweight. I pride myself in protecting the natural hair because that is the point of braids; they are a protective style. I would say my customer service is what sets me apart. I value my clients. I respect all the braiders before me and I’m continuously learning. I’ve learned from watching other awesome braiders on the internet and practicing on my own hair.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I feel like the LA is a great place to start a business; especially hair. Everyone in LA is always getting their hair done and wanting new styles. I’d recommend someone to start in LA because although there is a lot of competition, being genuine and having good customer service are two of the main components of running a successful business. If you have those two, your clientele will grow and you will be able to maintain your clientele. Remember, fast money isn’t always good money when doing services like hair, lashes, or nails.
