Meet Tricia Lee of Invited by Tricia Events and Design in Orange County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tricia Lee.

Tricia, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I think I’ve always had the creative gene and an eye for design for as long as I can remember. But I can say that my love for flowers and events really started when I was a young teen. One of the ladies at my church needed some help preparing for a wedding of one of our church members and I went along with my mom to help out. It was then that I realized I truly enjoyed it and actually had a knack for it. The first time I actually made a business out of it was when I had to go to my first dance in high school and needed money to help pay for a dress, tickets, dinner, etc. So to earn a little cash, I got my friends to order their corsages and boutonnieres from me and even did their hair up-do’s. Word quickly spread at school and eventually I was taking more orders and earning more than I needed to pay for just one dance.

Fast forward to my own wedding…I was determined not to spend thousands of dollars by doing a lot of things myself -the ideal DIY bride. So to save money, I printed my own invitations, created my centerpieces and even sewed my own wedding dress!

After my wedding, friends and family began to ask me for help planning and designing their own events and as the word continued to spread, I soon realized I can easily make it a sideline business.

Has it been a smooth road?
There’s always a challenge with opening a business and for me it was definitely trying to balance my already full schedule and kids. I started it as just a weekend job which worked out great in the beginning because I had a regular 9-5 on the weekdays. But when business began to grow, I had to make adjustments to my routine, cut some hours at my regular job and found that I was spending less and less time at home on weekends with my family. Having your own business means you make a lot of personal sacrifices and that will always be a part of it. And I still struggle with that today. I think that if I didn’t have the love and passion for it and my clients didn’t continue to come back and refer me, I would’ve given up a long time ago. Fortunately for me, I don’t look at this as a job. I love what I do. In fact, I consider it as an escape from the monotonous duties of a typical 9-5 job. I feel its therapeutic to release some creative juices and any success I see come out of it, I know is a product of my own dedication and hard work.

Invited by Tricia Events and Design is company that specializes in planning events such as weddings, baby showers and birthdays. We also do floral designs, linen & decor rentals, candy and dessert tables and paper goods and invitations. As a Certified planner, I can help you plan your event from the start or just come in at the end to help tie loose ends and makes sure your day runs smoothly. Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Our business is located in northern Orange County, which I think is pretty great because it’s in the middle of LA and southern Orange County which are both popular areas for weddings. It’s definitely a great area to start an event business in. I’ve never felt like I was competing with other businesses because there will always be people getting married, having babies and birthdays.
