Today we’d like to introduce you to Trèvon Slaten.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Trèvon. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Coming from a small town in Tennessee, I knew I was destined to do more with my life. I definitely felt I have always been different from other kids. I would always loved to sing or write little jingles. Sad part about all that is that I’ve always been in the background. I was scared to show how talented I really was. In college was always scared to sing solos but wanted to do it so bad. I told myself before I graduate college I have to get a solo. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. I graduated college back in 2016 and I planned on moving to LA. My mom got very sick and I kinda wanted to hang that dream up and help her out. But my mom couldn’t stand not seeing me do what I’ve always wanted to do. She gave my $3,500 and said “son, drive to LA and chase your dreams. Don’t stop until your name is in the lights” not only am I out here in LA making my dreams come true for myself. I’m also doing for my mom. My biggest supporter and true fan.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been very rocky! LA seriously have some talented people. The crazy thing is, everyone out her and chasing the same dream. So I have to always behead of head of the game and ask myself “what makes me stand a part from everyone else”
Tell us about your work – what should we know?
Singing everything to me. It’s my career and my life. I love telling stories through my music and relating to everyone with each note. I’m so proud of the person I’ve become and can’t wait to see where this career is taking me next.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
As my vocal coaches/mentors would say “you have to put in the WORK!” That is the truest thing ever. So many people think thing will happen for them overnight, but you have to put in some effort. Putting in work, having faith, and not giving up are some good essentials.
