Today we’d like to introduce you to Travis Covington.
Travis, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
A Los Angeles creative from Fayetteville, North Carolina. I am a graduate of the greatest HBCU in the world, North Carolina Central University. With a major in Communications, I pursued camera work during my sophomore year shooting club promotional content for my party team. I shot video at each party, then I would create short promotional videos to persuade viewers to attend more of our parties. I kept my passion for camera and began to create a wide range of content. Photography became another interest of mine. Shortly after graduating college and receiving my Bachelor’s degree in 2016, I took a leap of faith with a few friends to pursue my dreams. It has always been in my heart to create content on a bigger platform to not only entertain but influence others with a dream. Today, I am an LA-based videographer, photographer, and filmmaker. I have created short films, music videos, sketches, and more. I have built an increasing line of clients for photography work and created a production brand to build from ground up, Maestro Productions.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Taking a leap of faith will always come with a few bumps in the road. Keeping my faith in God and the help of some of my closest friends helped me proceed with a strong mindset. I don’t tell many people but, I literally moved to Los Angeles with 300 dollars to my name. I worked a summer job called Summer Discovery as my “meal ticket” to move to Santa Barbara, CA. I saved all of my money and moved to Van Nuys, CA with my three friends. Adjusting to the cost of living alone was tough.
Please tell us about Maestro Productions.
Maestro Productions is my production brand that I am striving to turn into a huge filmmaking company in the near future. With my expertise in shooting videography, photography, and filmmaking, I create entertaining and creative content for the public eye. I am known for creating crazy, funny skits. Just to get some laughs down my timeline. My friends and family are familiar with the style of content that I create for others. Music videos, street photography, short films, product photography, and more. My goal with my work is to never seem one dimensional. I want others to see that I do it all. What sets me apart from others is my resilience. I don’t mind the grind, nor do I mind obstacles along the way. As I tell others…”Just add it to the story.” You cannot let your hardships define you. Adapt, and build from it. The show goes on.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Honestly, I don’t believe in luck. If the luck is good, I believe that it was truly meant for me. If the luck is bad, it’s another lesson learned.
