Meet Trailblazer Sera Alper

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sera Alper.

Sera Alper is the definition of a go-getter. She is the name behind Localite Productions and the successful medical web series “Real Caregivers, Real Stories” which generated over 13 million views. Her forward thinking has allowed her to capitalize on opportunities that contributed to “media firsts” within the healthcare industry. Sera has unified healthcare professionals across specialties and built a vast community of medical influencers. Her creative vision has to lead to the massive transformation of allheart’s media platforms to become one of the most influential accounts within the medical industry.

Sera has organized outreach missions in Haiti, Honduras, Philippines, Turkey, Uganda, St. Vincent and the Grenadines. After experiencing Period Poverty, Sera decided to launch PMSBOX a monthly subscription that includes organic products to improve menstruation. With every box sold, PMSBOX donates menstrual supplies to one in need.

Prior to relocating to Los Angeles, Sera lived abroad in Istanbul for six years and managed the social media departments at MEC and Tribal. Sera worked on campaigns for a variety of global clients (not limited to) Bayer, Colgate, IKEA, L’Oréal, Nespresso, Pepsi, Red Bull, and Sony. Sera holds a Bachelors of Arts degree from the University of Massachusetts with a double major in Communication & Psychology and minor in Information & Technology.

When she is not working, Sera is teaching her rescue cat from Istanbul, how to play fetch.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has never been a smooth road to be quite honest, but obstacles are only obstacles if you choose to give in. Obstacles are opportunities for growth. Easier said than done – I totally get it. But, perspective is key when you strive to be unstoppable. You have to be your own silver lining, every fucking single day. Opportunities were never presented in a gold platter for me. I always had to run after what I wanted in life (including now) and create opportunities to lead me where I wanted to go. There is no magical place where when you reach it, obstacles suddenly disappear. Struggles just change form along the way.

My first struggle in life was perhaps my birth. It was a complicated one, but I managed to survive, so I guess after that – anything in life is survivable. In the business world, even if you have a track record of success, every single person you meet for the very first time will challenge you. The transition from being a successful employee to a full -time entrepreneur has been quite a challenge. I always thought clients would come running after me and my services right away. That was not the case. Being an entrepreneur is quite similar to traveling in a very wavy ocean. It’s quite unpredictable, but the secret to surviving is to not get too caught up on the good moments or the bad ones. Balance, a strong will, and putting the work every single day will bring you closer to where you want to be in life.

For anyone who is starting a new chapter in life, congratulations. My only advice is to learn how to be self-sufficient. The crowd around you will magically disappear the moment you decide to drift off to an unknown path. You have to always remember to show up for yourself. You have to believe in your dreams and go after what you want in life. You have to be kind to yourself along the process.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about PMSBOX, Localite Productions – what should we know?
Nowadays, everyone claims of being a Social Media Expert or Guru. The interest in the industry is overwhelming and great, but I have been a social media manager for over a decade. So, I would like to point out that this has been my only profession. I am not a newcomer. I have been here for as long as I could remember. It’s very important to state this because professionals who have been here long enough has the upper hand when it comes to predicting what will be trending next. They can sense opportunities before it becomes visible to everyone and they are not afraid of taking risks, a.k.a. “being the first” to take a differing approach.

I am currently running an ad agency Localite Productions which specializes in content creation and influencer marketing. From small to medium size businesses regardless of where your business is at, I guide brands on how to build a legendary brand. Although we cater to a variety of industries, Healthcare has been the core industry we are currently focusing on. “Real Caregivers” has been one of the web series I am known for. I have also started PMSBOX, a customizable subscription box to improve your menstrual experience. Every box comes with five products (menstrual supplies, therapeutic, beauty, nutrition, and token items). With every box sold, we give menstrual supplies to one in need. So far, we hosted menstrual hygiene workshops, donated supplies to the Philippines and Uganda. Our next campaign will take part in Grenada. For anyone who would like to volunteer or be a part of the movement, I suggest reaching out to us on Instagram @pmsboxco.

In between both companies, I would like to call myself the Maestro – the individual who connects the dots and makes music happen. I am known for giving as many opportunities as possible to everyone around me, regardless of their experience. Let’s not forget the master was once a beginner. I know how vital it is when you are first starting out to have people believe in you and to take chance on you. I am known to inspire entrepreneurs, influencers and all of the above.

Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
Regardless of the media, I consume, I have always been hyping myself up in moments when no one is around me to remind me of my true potential. My sister likes to make fun of me and call me a motivational “Thinker-Bell”, due to my inspirational stories on Instagram (@seraalperr). Before looking for outside motivation, I suggest everyone make a conscious effort to become that person for themselves. There is no “let me think about it.” You have to be your own cheerleader.

For outside sources, I highly recommend Gary Vee on Instagram. He has been the only name who has truly inspired me to go after what I want in life. Regardless of where I am in my career, his words have always resonated with me. He is the definition of a true hustler. His content is a daily reminder that we are not alone in our entrepreneurship journey. He was recording YouTube videos for over a year until people started paying attention to him. He did not try once and give up. He kept swimming.

Even if you lack the attention span to read books, I suggest checking out these two reads: “You Are a Badass at Making Money: Master the Mindset of Wealth” by Jen Sincero and “I Forgot to Die” by Khalid Rafati. You will not be disappointed. Lately, I have been very active on a private Facebook group called “Women Helping Women Entrepreneurs.” I truly enjoy taking part in a community where I could share an invaluable experience when it comes to leveling brands up and being a source for other entrepreneurs.
