Meet Trailblazer Sally Gilles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sally Gilles.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Sally. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I grew up around fashion, my mom was a costume designer and always on top of the newest fashion trends. She made a lot of my clothes which led me to make clothes and becoming interested in fashion. About 3 years ago, I was working in social media with a group of amazing women. They were, and still are, very talented and driven women with amazing blogs and social media presence. Being around that positive energy and influence, led me to start my own blog and got me to where I am today!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In some ways, it has been a smooth road. I am so lucky to have a huge support system and all of my friends and family have been extremely supportive. I have a group of talented people who are amazing photographers and bloggers that I’ve worked with to create my content. Most of my roadblocks come from a personal place. Body image issues, I didn’t truly believe in the content I was posting, and so on. When you start a blog, you look up to other bloggers and influencers and aspire to be like them and to create a brand like they have. But once you’re in the thick of it, you realize that it’s not going to happen overnight. You have to be original and real and work really hard at it. My biggest advice for anyone who is just starting their journey would be to just be yourself. I know that’s all you hear growing up, but if you can truly embrace that, you’re on the right path. Your body is beautiful. Your mind is beautiful. You are beautiful.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Styles By Sally – what should we know?
I consider myself a lifestyle blogger but I definitely focus on fashion the most. And I think what sets me apart from others is my honesty. One of my biggest goals of 2018 is to be more honest, with friends and family and myself and also with the posts I have on my blog. I am most proud of that fact that I’ve been able to create a brand! Also, I am currently working on launching a stylist and closet organizing service and I am VERY excited about it.

Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
I draw a lot of inspiration from other bloggers. Especially strong female bloggers. Danielle Bernstein from We Wore What, Desi Perkins, and Aimee Song from Song of Style just to name a few.
