Meet Trailblazer Sabine Francois

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabine Francois.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always been a creator and a communicator at heart yet it took a while for me to truly own it and start walking in my purpose.  In college, I started out studying business and very quickly found that business school was not for me. This prompted me to do some soul searching and figure out, what do I really like to do? What am I good at? I discovered my natural gifts – creating, storytelling, using words and visuals to present an idea in a captivating way. So I transitioned to studying Communication and really started to thrive. More importantly, I realized all of the potential of my gifts and talents.

When I graduated, I landed a “career job” at an ad agency doing media planning and knew immediately, this is not creative enough for me, there is going to be more to my life. Within a year, I upgraded to a job at the iconic hip hop and lifestyle magazine VIBE.  I was walking in my creative purpose doing marketing and events within music and entertainment. I got to travel all around the country networking within the industry and collaborating with artists. I was able to really be my authentic self and that prompted me to want to take things a step further in exploring my creativity.

So, after two years of working at VIBE, I set out on another journey of writing, recording, and sharing my own music, which was an EP called Born to Fly. Again, I found myself traveling and networking in the industry across the country. I was also unknowingly igniting a flame for my next creative venture. When I would go out, the one consistent thing I found was that people were always very interested in what I was wearing and my personal style. It made me realize, “Wow, I really have a gift for style and putting looks together.” And the more I was living out my creative purpose, the more it emerged as a bigger part of my life.

I wanted to share this gift out of a desire to help people feel and look their best, as well as to create a lifestyle they love and that makes them happy. I decided to start creating content and to compliment it with a small online boutique. So, in the summer of 2016, I launched with just a few jewelry items, a couple of article posts and a few YouTube video reviews on my favorite hair and makeup products. The subject matter has evolved as I personally have grown and matured. Now, it includes everything from style and beauty, to wellness and self-empowerment, to traveling on a budget and optimizing your lifestyle. I really want to create content that empowers women to live their best lives! We are all so fabulous and amazing inside but we have to know it, own it and share it with the world! I believe fashion and beauty are just icing on the cake that helps people to make their outside match their inside. I love sharing all of this information and making it accessible to every woman.

I’m continuing to grow my brand not only through but also through my Instagram, YouTube channel, content collaborations, speaking engagements and hosting. I am also really excited to have started taking on my first one-on-one clients for personal consultations which includes everything from personal styling and closet overhauls, to developing a personal plan to work toward a happy, healthy lifestyle.  I also have been putting myself out there for more opportunities to collaborate and host content for other outlets. I feel truly feel blessed to be living my purpose, walking in love and encouraging others every day. This is just the beginning for me.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Struggles have been deciding to pursue my creative journey when everyone around me would think I should take the safe road. I have to chose not to give in to the doubts and fears. I just trust God and keep believing that He has good plans for my life. And I have to believe in myself, that I was called to a higher purpose and that I have everything I need to achieve it already inside of me.

I advise young women to have perseverance. In this day and age of instant gratification, people expect overnight results but most of the people we see who are successful have been doing it for years. They’ve had doors slammed in their faces, have been broke or maybe even missed a meal or two. The way I see it, sleeping on a couch or being “jobless” for a time comes with the territory. Own your struggle! You’ll come out on the other side if you just believe in yourself and persevere.

Do you feel like there was something about the experiences you had growing up that played an outsized role in setting you up for success later in life?
Growing up, I had some positive influences in my life, both in my family and through older advisors, mentors, and teachers. My mom, in particular. I saw her start her own business at over 50 years old while working her full-time job at an investment bank. She has taught me to persevere and stay connected to God. She always remains positive regardless of circumstance. So because of her, I don’t take myself too seriously. I laugh a lot and I take risks!

Another awesome influence in my life was the program Prep For Prep. It helped me transition from my public school to the best private school in New York. Even after I graduated high school, they really helped me with getting into college and by allowing me to be part of a community of like-minded ambitious people.

I have been fortunate. I also seek out mentors and taken advantage opportunities to learn. Ultimately, we just have to take life into our own hands and make something amazing happen!
