Today we’d like to introduce you to Nye Love.
Nye, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My journey started when I was the first person in my family to go to university. Throughout my time at the illustrious Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University b.k.a. FAMU, I embarked on various creative projects that open my mind to one day becoming an entrepreneur. I moved to LA on April 12, 2012, with an interview for a job that I didn’t really want & to an apartment that I shared with my sister (who is now my artist 🙂 ). Being new to LA we went out all the time & when we did people would always ask me if I was my sister’s manager, they said I represented her well. Until that day, we had never considered me managing her let alone working with each other. The more & more we heard people say I should manage my sister, the more we started to consider the idea. So one day, we set down & had a serious talk about what our future was going to be & that was the start of Love Girlzz. LoveGirlzz is a brand that we created to drive revenue from our passions. If we don’t genuinely believe in it we can’t brand it under LoveGirlzz.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
A smooth road, lol not at all but that’s the fun part in the journey. At the beginning of Love Girlzz, we wasted a lot of money on “ideas” that we thought would make more money. Thinking with a mindset of “let’s make money quick” placed us in a corner of discouragement with little to no results. With God on our side & determination to break generational curses we jumped back in the studio & shortly after was on a plane to tape Showtime At the Apollo in NYC. The best advice that I can give to other women is that if what you are creating is something that you genuinely believe in don’t give up. My sister Love the Artist, & I are currently working on her first EP & producing a fitness clothing line made by women, for ALL women. If somebody would have told me that this is where my life would be when I first moved to LA, I would have laughed. You have to trust the process, trust God & know that what is for you will be yours when the time is right.
Please tell us about LoveGirlzz – what should we know?
As I mentioned before, I am currently managing my sister Love thee Artist whose first EP will be coming out soon & I’m also in the designing phase of my new fitness brand. I love creating music with my sister & help making her an amazing artist but my fitness line is my baby. Being a people person I’ve worked in retail as a manager for a long time & have heard a lot of the consumer’s concerns about their workout attire. For a lot of women, simply finding the right pants & sports bra set can be a struggle & these are the women I’m creating this line for. For the women like me who love to work out but sometimes have to wear two bras to feel supported. The women who constantly have to pull their pants up after every squat. The women who wants to look cute & comfortable without having to sacrifice one for the other. Fitness & a healthy lifestyle are a huge part of the Love Girlzz brand & who we are as women. This fitness line is only the beginning of an ongoing healthy lifestyle movement that we want to promote & support.
Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
My favorite quick read when I decided to start managing my sister was “All You Need to Know About the Music Business” by Donald S. Passman. I recommend anyone who is just getting into the industry & have little to no knowledge of whether you’re an artist or looking to represent an artist you should read this book. I continuously go back & reread various sections before going into meetings, studios or meet & greets. I also like to follow other positive women entrepreneurs or creators on social media who I feel I can grow from like Karen Civil & Oththan. Last but not least, get you a good praise & worship playlist. There’s a lot of clarity & understanding for what it is you need to do in praise & worship.
