Today we’d like to introduce you to Nancy Sevilla.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I decided to start my blog in college – I was studying Animation and VFX at the time and though, surprisingly I did not pursue fashion, I always enjoyed dressing up to class and giving fashion advice to those around me. While I was pursuing my degree, I discovered fashion and beauty bloggers such as Aimee Song (Song of Style) and Dulce Candy and absolutely loved following them. A year later, my blog, Fancy Nanc-ista was born.
I did not really get into my blog until after graduating – but I am so glad, I continued to still pursue it. My blog not only allowed me to showcase and share with the world my fashion perspective but it also opened up many opportunities and doors that I would have never had if it weren’t for my blog. I am truly very grateful for every experience I have encountered – and will always cherish every moment of it. My goal is to always inspire at least one person through my creativity and style.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Nothing in life is going to come easy. You will always run into challenges; which will only help you to learn and grow. Just like every other thing in life, committing to a blog is going to be hard work and will take up a lot of your time. Although I always tell people if you’re passionate about something, then that should not make you want to quit so easily. I’ll be honest, some days are harder than others, and at one point, I did want to quit blogging overall. With the amount of work, the environment and competition can really take a toll on you.
With that said, my advice for other women who are just starting their journey is to always stay true to yourself, be kind, work hard and try your best to not compare yourself to other people. I think that is honestly the hardest thing for many of us. Just because we see a perfectly painted picture on Instagram, that doesn’t mean that there are no flaws in it. Every brand or individual is unique in their own way – if you try to be someone else is a waste of a person you are. 😉
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Fancy Nanc-ista – what should we know?
I currently am self-employed and while I’d like to eventually work as a full-time blogger, I also have a few clients that I work for as a social media consultant and occasionally work as a video editor/animator.
I am most proud of where I am now – honestly, without my blog and past experiences, no idea where I would be today. It has helped me grow as a person and to be confident in myself.
What sets me apart from others is I am very honest and genuine – I always present my experiences and views in my unique style and voice in an honest and genuine way. And on another note, with my creative style and background, I feel very well-rounded in many categories – eventually, I would like to showcase both my passions, fashion and visual effects through a video series on YouTube (TBD).
Which women have inspired you in your life?
There isn’t really one person or people that have inspired me – I get inspired daily by those surrounding, social media, and the environment.
