Meet Trailblazer Melissa Impett

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Impett.

Melissa, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up, I was so ashamed of my body. I just never understood why I wasn’t lucky enough to have a fit, curvy body like all those girls I saw in magazines. I thought it was impossible for me. I was “big boned” and had no chance of looking curvy & fit. In fact, I remember thinking to myself as a little girl, “I need to be successful one day so that I can afford liposuction.” I truly thought that was the only answer.

Years went by and I would sit around WISHING things could be different. I wanted so badly to be proud of my body, but I just ruled it out. I wasn’t lucky enough to have a proud that I was proud of.

When college rolled around I was sick and tired of feeling so sick and tired. I had made so many new friends that were fit and really enjoyed going to the gym. Passionate… about working out??? That was something my lazy self had never heard of. Watching these people and learning about their lifestyles made me start to realize that maybe I could make a change. I started slowly making the realization that my body was entirely up to me. If I wanted to make a change, I needed to be the change.

The huge AH-HA moment in my life was that I was the one in control.

This is where my love for fitness and nutrition began. I took it upon myself to start investing in myself. I got curious about the human body and how it functioned. I started becoming more resourceful and teaching myself about how to eat properly for my goals.

Self-love was something I was horrified of, but I learned over and over again that LOVING the body you were blessed with was key for making this life-changing transformation.

The Beautifully Built Podcast was born after the life lessons I learned on my journey to living a healthier, more positive life. The mission behind Beautifully Built is to inspire people to take the body they were BLESS with and build it into the body they’ve dreamed of through fitness, nutrition, and a little attitude adjustment.

It’s my goal to share an empowering platform for people to come on and share their stories about how fitness and a positive mindset has transformed their entire life.

Listeners who tune into the Podcast love the little attitude adjustment every week. They can pick up tips and tricks from other people who have learned to love their body and appreciate the process of achieving their health and fitness goals.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Absolutely not. I always tell my clients, if getting fit was easy, it wouldn’t be NEARLY as desirable. Working on becoming the best version of yourself takes focus, commitment, and intention.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Beautifully Built – what should we know?
Beautifully Built has morphed into a lifestyle brand. As a life coach, I work both 1:1 and in group settings to help people dig deep into the relationship they have with themselves. No matter what you eat or do in the gym if you aren’t working on growing your mindset and getting rid of the negative thoughts that no longer serve you, it is incredibly challenging to see the long lasting results that so many people dream of. The Beautifully Built mission is to inspire people to learn to truly fall in love with the body they were blessed with BEFORE working on building it into the body of their dreams.

What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
I can’t stress enough how important it is to work through any time of trauma or negativity from your past. I always ask my clients, “if you were to talk to your best friend the way you talk to yourself, would you still have many friends”? We have the tendency to be so hard on ourselves and speak so negatively to ourselves. It is very hard to see our dreams come true if we are caught up on the negative, limiting beliefs that we can be holding on to from as far back as our childhood. Doing this hard, deep, inner work is so key to becoming the best version of ourselves and building the body and life that we are proud of!
