Meet Trailblazer Liv Roach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Liv Roach.

Liv, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Wow, where do I start !?

As a little girl, I always had a love for nail polish all different shades, especially RED! Growing up seeing my aunt and grandmother with long bright colored nails always fascinated me. When I got older, I was able to express myself more so every two weeks; I had a fresh set of bright colored nails in high school. The challenge for me came in when I noticed visiting locals salons would flare up my asthma. I started to do research and educate myself on what products were used in local salons. The main product being used in salons in my area is MMA – Methyl methacrylate which irritates the respiratory tract, eyes, nose, & throat. So, I began to search for reputable nail salons that used EMA – Ethyl Methacrylate based products around South LA sadly at that time that weren’t many. I decided to create an Instagram catering to educating others on nail products, finding reputable salons in their area, & nail inspiration. In the process, I started wanting more extravagant nails the issue of not being able to access certain things locally prompted me to start making my glitter mixes for my nails. The passing of my mother put things in perspective; she always instilled entrepreneurship in me. I’ve always been creative, and I already had a massive platform in the nail community, so I started to put all my energy into The Glitter Life.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been smooth; I don’t think there is a “Smooth” road with anything that has the potential to be successful. Every obstacle that I’ve encountered on my journey has shaped me into who I am today. No matter how small it’s given me a greater understanding of business and taught me patience. My advice to anyone starting on their journey, my advice would be to believe in yourself! Have patience, research & ask tons of questions. Never compare your journey to anyone else; always remember everyone has their lane.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Glitter Life – what should we know?
Our specialty at The Glitter Life is creating high-quality solvent resistant, and cosmetic grade glitter mixes for nail art/cosmetic purposes. Our creativity doesn’t stop there! We also make nail decals & custom t-shirts for our customers, whether they’re nail related or for branding.

What makes me most happy about my brand is that I can provide my customers with the best quality products that bring their vision to life. It amazes me to see the things our customers create with our products; they bring them to life with their nail art & makeup looks. What sets The Glitter Life apart from other brands is we’ve created our lane, and we treat each customer like family.

Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
Communicate and have an open mind. Make sure to pay attention not only to people in your industry but check out mentors in other industries. You pick up information from everywhere. When I started, I felt that all mentors had to be older than you, but that is not true. I have young and older mentors some mentors that I don’t even have a personal connection with yet I’ve learned a lot from them. But, not only that I read a lot of books as well as watch tons of interviews and documentaries.

One of my greatest mentors would be Nipsey Hussle, I’ve gain tons of knowledge and inspiration from his music and interviews.
