Meet Trailblazer Kaye Fernandez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaye Fernandez.

Kaye, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I was 13 years old when I realized the cultural intelligence of design in the fashion world. I found fashion magazines that showed different styles of clothing but with sharp precision. I noticed that there were different patterns and design theories that were tied with the culture of the people. As a visual person, I enjoyed studying what each culture recognized and saw within their environments by seeing them a project onto their designs. That’s why I started Kaye Beauty Fashion Travel. I felt like it was a platform for me to share with the deaf community what other cultures or communities see visually. I think you can really see a person through their paring/style/design of clothing. I want to encourage other people to actively express themselves through their clothing.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I think something that I’ve learned with my journey is realizing that fashion is an expensive interest. I think so many people think that fashion has to be a high brand. That’s not true. It’s about how you put things together not what you put together. I would say to really own and explore all factors of fashion. Don’t be afraid to try off the wall styles. Sometimes, you don’t realize the clothes on the hanger will look different on you! Just explore! Add a belt, put funky socks, wear jewelry, have fun!

We’d love to hear more about Kaye Faith Style.
I am a deaf fashion and hairstyle influencer. I share my styles and tips with everyone. My biggest demographic is the deaf community and I’m proud of that. I just want to take people on my fashion journey and share what I learn with them. I hope in doing that, other fashion/hair influencers will consider adding captions so that my community has access to more information than just through my vlogs.

Do you recommend any apps, books or podcasts that have been helpful to you?
I am currently obsessed with “YOU,” a Netflix series about a stalker. It’s intense and everyone needs to watch it! I am also a big fan of Instagram and YouTube. I enjoy watching other artist’s ideas and seeing their work.
