Meet Trailblazer Kana Ishii

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kana Ishii.

Kana, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I always wanted to be in a beauty industry since I was a little girl. I am originally from Tokyo, Japan. My mother used to work as a volunteer for international students and foreigners to help them live in Japan, so I grew up being exposed to foreign cultures and dreamed of living abroad one day.

After working as a hairstylist for couple years in Tokyo, I decided to move to Los Angeles to make my dream come true and ever since then, I have been working as a hair stylyst in Los angeles.

Now, I currently work at Lukaro Salon and Spa in Beverly Hills and have over 400 own clients and also work as a Hair and makeup artist in the Los Angeles area.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think separates someone who does have own business successfully from someone who wants to do it but chooses not to is just whether “you make it happen or not”.

It is important to “just try” and I believe that is what separates people, especially young women. They should try everything they think they should while they still have lots of energies!

Also, there are pros and cons to everything. But which side you focus on could change the result. There was a time when I struggled with building up my career here in Los Angeles as an immigrant, but nothing good comes out of being negative, so I only focus on positive things.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Hair by Kana – what should we know?
After I have worked as a hair stylist in Tokyo for a couple of years, I moved to Los Angeles.

I currently work at a hair salon in Beverly Hills and also work as a freelance hairstylist and make-up artist for weddings, photo shoots and events.

At the salon, I do mostly hair color and especially have lots of clients for Balayage/Ombre color.

Since I studied cosmetology and have work experiences in both Japan and Los Angeles, I am specialized for any different kind of ethnicity’s hair!
