Meet Julianne of JulesJetsets

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julianne of JulesJetsets.

Julianne, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have always known that I would need to integrate traveling in my full-time job — I just never could have imagined that I would be ‘blogging’ for a living. I can pinpoint a few different events in my life that were undoubtedly the catalyst for the path that I’m on. While I was living in Milan, I was working in Public Relations and as a photographer for an Online Fashion Magazine (pretty much the perfect marriage of work elements when you think about being a blogger & social media influencer). I remember I was also incredibly fascinated with Instagram back then — long before it was a thing! I tried to encourage some of our clients to utilize the platform a bit more back in 2012 but it wasn’t viewed as anything more than a photo-sharing app back then. I really thought there was more to it than that and so I decided then and there, that I would use it as a way to showcase my travel photography and daily musings.

Upon moving back to Boston, I continued to travel every chance that I could. It became second-nature to upload those travel memories to Instagram without really thinking too much into it. Around 2015, when I started to gain a larger audience… it was around the time I started to really recognize that there was a prospective opportunity to make a part-time or full-time living from it. Though, I was still working at my previous job and battling with the idea of forfeiting stability to try to pursue the unknown. In the summer of 2016, I decided to move to Los Angeles and to go after it wholeheartedly. There was no longer any purpose in wondering as I’m a huge adversary of the term “WHAT IF”. So fast forward to 2018, blogging and influencing account for a huge portion of my income. I also do Social Media Strategy Consulting on occasion — chiefly with start-ups.

This is assuredly the most difficult job I’ve ever had… but also, the most rewarding. Even on the days that I work 15 hours, I still love and look forward to it each and every day!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No goal worth having is ever accompanied by a smooth road!

I truly believe that – so of course, along the way there were countless struggles. I think it’s imperative to embrace them as part of the journey and not to allow yourself to feel defeated. Being human, of course, I had plenty of low days and self-doubt always tries to creep in at some stage — and feeling those low emotions are definitely a part of the process. BUT you have to feel them and then release them!

One thing I did each time I would hit a new obstacle was… I’d tell myself, “Remember the last time something turbulent like this came up – and you overcame it. WOW! How amazing is that?! If you succumb to defeat now, you’ll never know what the other side of ‘success’ truly feels like”.

Resilience is key. It’s great and certainly helps if you have a great support group of friends and family — but ultimately, just try to be your own biggest advocate!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about JulesJetsets – what should we know?
I have a predominant focus on travel and I feel as though that’s what I most identify with. I’ve also been integrating a larger overall lifestyle emphasis into my brand. Over the last year especially, I’ve had a much larger focus on trying to empower women in a variety of ways — honing in on everything from solo-travel, to being an entrepreneur and what it means to be ‘body positive’.

I think, I’m most proud of the fact now that I don’t stand out as a quintessential ‘fashion type of blogger’. Not that they’re not amazing in their own right — because they’re all amazing goddesses!

In the beginning, I just certainly had some concerns about not having the ‘typical’ body type that you would so often see in both fashion magazines and fashion blogs. Now, I feel incredibly gratified and fulfilled by so much of the feedback that I’ve received from women all over the world. EVERYBODY IS BEAUTIFUL in their own unique way – and my brand has really evolved into an illustrious representation of who I am and how I want to continue to grow!

Finding a mentor and building a network are often cited in studies as a major factor impacting one’s success. Do you have any advice or lessons to share regarding finding a mentor or networking in general?
Go to events every chance you can! I think one of the greats downsides of social media is that we are fairly restricted to impersonal interactions sometimes. Going out and connecting with people in person is truly the best way in my opinion. That’s how I’ve met some of my favorite friends, bloggers and brands who have continued to inspire and motivate me!
