Meet Trailblazer Ileana Mendez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ileana Mendez.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a makeup artist from LA/OC and I love everything beauty! I come from a humble family with strong family values and work ethic. I have learned to take each day as an opportunity to learn something new, to reassess my dreams, and to take the actions necessary to make them come true.

Initially, I never thought I would be able to turn something so creative that I love so much into something that I could do for a living, but it was always something I had wanted to pursue. I was working in the medical field as a prenatal educator, and as much as I loved working with patients and making an impact in their lives I knew in my heart that the medical field wasn’t for me.

Yes, beauty comes from within, but I can’t tell you how impactful putting on eyebrows for a cancer patient can be. I learned first hand how much we take the smallest things like having eyebrows for granted. I met a beautiful cancer patient name Maribel, the look she gave me after she saw herself in the mirror as tears rolled down her face is something I will never forget. I felt honored that I was able to create and be a part of that happiness. That day, I fell even more in love with the power of makeup.

Has it been a smooth road?
Being a part of the society that we live in there’s so much competition no matter what field/industry you are in, sometimes you can’t help but doubt yourself ” am I good enough”, “should I be more like him/her,” etc. You have to stay true to yourself and focus on the positive. We have the power to choose how we respond to the negativity that comes our way. You have to choose to build an unstoppable mindset that will give you the ability to have the confidence to get through any hardships or challenges that come your way.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
Freelance Makeup Artist.

We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
One of the biggest challenges I feel us woman come across is not having enough confidence! Know that you are capable of anything, speak confidently and do not fear rejection.
