Meet Trailblazer Francesco Thompson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Francesco Thompson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Francesco. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started in leather craft about 4-5 years ago in my living room as a hobby. I was facing a difficult period of depression and string absence of purpose in my life so took it upon myself to learn. Once I started, I was absolutely hooked. I initially made leather items like belts for friends and it slowly grew into a VERY SMALL, part-time business/paid hobby. As time went on, I realized I could make a go of it and converted my garage into my own shop and bought a sewing machine. After 2-3 years of making just belts from home and selling online… I decided to open “The Leather Shop L.A.” Retail location in San Pedro. Our store is a full-service customer leather shop (although we do not craft shoes or jackets). We also now manufacture items monthly for the Los Angeles Cit Fire Department and are developing our leather Beach sandals catered to the L.A. Beachgoer for 2018.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been very hard, but when you love it..the challenges go right past you. Struggles are always financial as I believe it is for most businesses. Too much outgoing and never enough coming in. But that is why passion and purpose are so important in business. It gets you past obstacles like these that almost every small business faces. My advice to anyone is to always be “all in.” If you are committed and truly believe, then it will happen. Enjoy the journey because one day you will look back and wish you would have enjoyed the humble beginnings more.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Leather Shop L.A. – what should we know?
The Leather Shop L.A. specializes in custom leather goods. Our brand is unique in many ways. One aspect, in particular, is that our customers can speak with us in person to show us the custom leather goods they want. Customers can touch, examine and hold our products to examine the practice; laity and quality of our products. Not to mention, in-person customer service beats online every time. Also, our quality guarantee is simple. The only way we won’t guarantee our products is if you hit it with a chainsaw or burn it in a fire. Other than that, we cover it.

What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to someone just starting her career?
Be ultra-confident and take the risks you must take to get yourself and your brand to that next level. Tomorrow never comes and don’t become a slave to others.
