Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Torres.
Elizabeth, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I attended Woodbury University in Burbank and graduated with a Bachelors in Fashion Marketing. My first job was with a company that produces Fashion Shows as a dresser. I remember feeling I wanted to accomplish so much more. I asked for a raise and was told it would take nearly five years for me to be considered for a raise. A week later I had landed a job as a stylist for a TV Show, and six months later I was in front of the camera as a Fashion Expert on Univision, Telemundo, and Mundo Fox.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I came into an industry I knew nothing about. I had zero experience in an extremely competitive field. In the beginning there where a million people who did not believe in me and encouraged me to stop pursuing my dream. Never ever let anyone tell you what you can or can not accomplish. Follow your instincts. The opportunities will come just make sure you are prepared.
We’d love to hear more about Elizabeth Torres.
I am a TV Fashion Expert, and I work closely with brands and TV networks bringing the latest fashion styles and trends to TV shows. I also have a blog where I share style and beauty tips. Aside from that I also have celebrity clients which I style for red carpets and tours.
We’re interested to hear your thoughts on female leadership – in particular, what do you feel are the biggest barriers or obstacles?
I feel the biggest barrier is women do not support each other enough. I think we talk about women empowerment and women supporting women a lot but in this industry women are women’s worst competition.
