Meet Trailblazer Elisa and Eve Yen

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elisa and Eve Yen.

Elisa and Eve, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
The closest athletic sport we played in high school was cheerleading. When we got to college, the only exercise we’d get was on the treadmill because we didn’t know what else to do besides running. Eve was introduced to Kayla Itsines’ BBG (Bikini Body Guide) in 2013 by a close friend. It was then we discovered a whole community of “Kayla’s Army” on Instagram. At first, we would only jump on the program a few months before Coachella because we wanted to look our best for the music festival every year. Then, we quickly realized how much we loved to workout, challenging our bodies to transform into a better and healthier version of itself. The Instagram community was constantly asking us to post-transformation photos, what’s on my plate photos, and workout updates. This was when we realized we wanted and needed a joint fitness Instagram account just for accountability purposes. We never imagined how many friends and brands we would meet and work with through this social platform. We started testing out different fitness boutique studios in LA and eventually became friends with the founders and worked out partnerships with them where we would feature their studios on our channels in exchange for classes. Then, we quickly realized that we wanted to create a community where it was safe for women and men to come together to try out fitness studios together. It’s always intimidating when you don’t know anyone going to a workout class for the first time so we wanted to build that community of a safe environment where we introduced friends to new friends all while sweating together at the same time! We’ve hosted a good amount of fitness events where we would get sponsored by protein, healthy snacks, and clothing brands. Brands started to reach out to collaborate with us on featuring new product launches and becoming brand ambassadors. We love helping our partners tell their story about their brands and why it’s so special to them.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I think it has been a pretty smooth road just because we never knew this was going to happen when we first created yensisters. This platform still surprises us every day with the opportunity it presents us. One struggle we faced on this journey and continue to face is not knowing the path we’re going with this brand. It’s definitely not a traditional career path and there are too many paths to count that we could potentially take. This is when we like to sit down with each other and figure out where we want to take this brand and what we want the big picture to look like. We still can’t quite put our finger on exactly where we’d like to see yensisters go, but we’re putting together the puzzle pieces bit by bit each day.

I think one advice I would give is to get out there and meet people. Connecting with different people is so important and spending time with like-minded people really helps get the creative juices flowing! If your friends are not supporting what you do, why are they your friends?! Get rid of negativity in your life and always stay positive. I love the quote “Worrying is like praying for something bad to happen”. Manifest positivity and it will come to you!!

Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
We are @yensisters — fitness, health & wellness bloggers on, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube. We’re actually bringing in a bit more lifestyle posts because we’ve noticed our audience wants in on a bit more into our lives. We’re also dipping our feet into the vlogging world as well since I just got a vlogging camera and would love to get more personal with our audience! We specialize in what we like to call “experiential IG stories” because we love bringing our audience along to every event we go to whether it’s a grand opening of a fitness studio, restaurant, or a trip somewhere! We’re known for curating really fun IG stories and in-feed posts that allows our audience to feel like they are there with us! Recapping events are so much fun for us to put together. This is where brands come in to have us showcase new products or services for them. We’re most proud of sharing our experience and bringing the community together to try new workouts, food, or products. Our genuine love for fitness, health & wellness sets us apart from the others. We never work with brands we don’t align with and we love cultivating a relationship with every partner. I think the fact that we are sisters also set us apart because we get to do everything together! 🙂

So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
Oh FOR SURE!! Especially because the media is covering so much about challenges facing women today, I feel like so many more women-owned and powered companies are starting to pop up. We love supporting these brands that are powered by women and hope to see more and more arise in the near future.

I believe women are particularly well positioned for any type of opportunity they strive for, however, it is still evident that we need to fight extra hard for equality in the workplace. Although we still see predominantly men at the head of industry and government, I’m still proud of how far women have come in terms of employment in the last decade. I believe we should celebrate women empowerment, and also continue to strive for gender equality in the workplace.
