Meet Trailblazer Delilah Rabina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Delilah Rabina.

Delilah, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My mom was always involved in fashion design and she’s the reason I’ve always been hooked on finding one-of-a-kind vintage/retro pieces with fun prints, unique details or special fabrics. In 2004, when I was 16, we stumbled across this shed that was for rent. It was literally 121 sq. ft., no main street entrance, only one small window, hotter than hell in the summer, and an old barn door that didn’t close all the way, but it was perfect! It looked like the walk-in closet of my dreams! I managed to keep it open until 2017, then we moved to another shed just 2 blocks away… a WAY bigger shed… like 10x bigger!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not at all. I’m definitely still going through a few bumps, but when you can see the light at the end of the tunnel, then the bumps seem more doable. Aside from the wonderful adventure of struggling financially, one of the biggest struggles is sacrificing time with friends and family, especially since they’re the core reason I’ve been able to take on any large project, including the current move to our new showroom. Always be open to advise, but stay true to who you are. It’s a balancing act.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Hotbox Vintage – what should we know?
We’re a clothing store. We specialize in curating vintage, retro and contemporary pieces in an unassuming space.

The experience of finding us is one thing, but the joyful sensation of finding that awesome one-of-a-kind piece that fits you just right, that you didn’t even realize you needed in your life, is another. I think what I’m most proud of is that we keep our prices accessible. As a vintage hunter, I appreciate when I find a shop that doesn’t charge an arm and a leg for a dream piece.

What’s the most important piece of advice you could give to a young woman just starting her career?
Pay your dues! Work hard and no matter what, you’re never too big for a job if it needs to get done.
