Meet Tracy Prentice of Tracy Trainer in Beverly Hills and Brentwood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracy Prentice.

Tracy, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Growing up, I never wanted to stop moving. I went to Boston University’s College of Fine Arts to major in Acting. I loved acting and it was also a way to get through university without getting stuck behind a desk. Senior year, I signed up for a personal training course at the fit-rec center. I figured I would need a side-gig if I was going to move to LA to become an actress. That class ended up changing my entire course of action. I had never considered that my first true love (moving/exercise) could be my career. Exercise and nutrition greatly impacted my mental and physical state. I was able to experience first-hand the power exercise and food have on us. It started with an interest in learning how to attain great health and wellness for myself. But, it grew into an even greater passion to spread well-being to as many people as possible.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My first job was at Equinox Beverly Hills. My first year as a personal trainer in a new city was grueling. It takes time to become established with a strong client base. I spent every waking moment at the gym getting to know members and offering consultation sessions. I was, and will never, consider myself a salesperson. I knew I was going to be a great trainer but I needed those first few clients to get to show what I had to offer. Fortunately, I so truly believe in my work that it started to sell itself. Once I had my first few clients, my business took off on its own. I took the time to focus on quality, rather than quantity. By doing so, my business spread mostly through referrals. Whenever I get overwhelmed with a busy schedule, I try to remember that time when I was desperate for anyone to let me help them. I’m so fortunate now to get to play a role in helping my roster of clients achieve their health and fitness goals.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Tracy Trainer LA – what should we know?
I specialize in weight loss. I have certifications in Precision Nutrition, ViPR, TRX, Kettlebells and Pre-post Natal Training. I am proud of my programming. No workout with me is “random” or “off-the-cuff”. I program workouts at least six weeks out so that I can make certain we are progressing and reaching the clients goal. Programming for clients helps hold me accountable, too! I am painfully empathetic. I can’t let myself get soft when a client starts to complain that they’re tired! I do the hard work on paper but I think what really sets me a part is how much I genuinely care about my clients. I am able to connect to people on a greater level. Exercise is a physical release of energy but it often also leads to a mental release. When clients get moving, they get talking. I’m able to create a safe space where they can talk about whatever is on their mind. It allows me to get to know them even better and help them even more. When I truly understand how a person operates, I’m able to find the best methods to change behaviors and make lasting changes in their lifestyle and nutrition.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My managers at Equinox were instrumental in teaching me how to become the trainer that I am today. I am incredibly grateful for the education that Equinox provided. Equinox also gave me a great group of colleagues that have also continued on to create businesses of their own. I still feel like I have a team behind me. I also wouldn’t be where I am today without my incredibly loyal clients. Some of my first clients are still with me today. They have become like family to me and they keep my heart in the game.
