Today we’d like to introduce you to Toni Duarte.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Toni. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started Toni’s Pet Concierge in 2005 while living in West LA. I offer Dog Walks, Frequent Visits while you are out of town, Dog Parks and Hikes and Cat and small critters care.
It all started with my best friend Sonya Brown, whom I have known for over 30 years and who knows how much I love dogs (because I have had them as long as I can remember). She said to me “You should start a dog walking business.” Well, I took her advice and started Toni’s Pet Concierge in 2005. In 2007, my business and I moved to downtown Los Angeles and we’re still going strong 12 years later.
I have 2 wonderful dogs, Max and Asia who are both rescues. Our older dog Ele Kea passed away 3 years ago and she was also a rescue. The love I have for dogs; I just can’t explain. It’s something I feel and if you have never loved a dog you are missing out. They give me what I need that makes my business successful…Unconditional love.
Like any business, and in life, there are ups and downs – but I would not change it for anything. One of the best part of my business is when I see my doggy clients with their owners and they go crazy and give me tons of love and kisses because they are so excited to see us. One of the hardest parts of my business is when a pet passes away. It hurts me almost as much (if not as much) as the owner and it happens too often.
My furry clients have provided so many funny and wonderful stories over the years that I could write a book (and that may be my next journey).
My business keeps me very busy and I am always asked “why don’t you open a facility and expand your business?” But for me it’s not about making the most money I possibly can, it’s about living the life I already have and getting to enjoy it. I have 2 walkers who are amazing and love our furry clients as much as I do. Maybe one day I will expand my business but right now I am happy with the wonderful clients I have and the ones I continue to get. Most of my business is word of mouth plus I host Yappy Hour where the human client can come out with their fur babies and enjoy a drink and have their fur baby hang out with buddies.
Has it been a smooth road?
The majority of the time it’s been a smooth road but the biggest bump is never wanting to say no which has made me have to adjust work and prior plans.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Toni’s Pet Concierge – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We offer Dog Walks, Frequent visits while you are out of town, Dog Parks, Cat and small critters care.
What sets us apart is that I still work on a daily basis with all my fur babies and have personal relationships with my clients.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The best thing I like about our city is that you can start a business out of something you believe in and see it grow. The least I like about the city is traffic!!
