Meet Toni Christopher

Today we’d like to introduce you to Toni Christopher.

Toni, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I graduated from college with a BA in Theatre completely uninspired. “Now what?” While bartending back home in Boston and contemplating my “What’s Next?”, someone recommended a local acting teacher who had an impressive reputation. I audited his class and was completely taken by his approach to the craft and forthright energy. He, along with some of the actors in his classes ignited my fire and passion for creating, expressing and storytelling and one year later I was in New York City living the dream of an Actress.

After spending years studying, auditioning, playing on stage, creating small Film/TV roles and bartending, I found myself in curiosity again, “Is this it? Now what?” I decided to take my experience and lessons learned from NYC to Los Angeles and build a stronger career. It’s here where I discovered and was encouraged to create my own possibilities and opportunities as an actress and artist.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
A smooth road? No pain, no gain, right? (laughs) Big picture, I am incredibly grateful for every challenge and obstacle that has come into my life. Those experiences have shaped who I’ve become and has deepened my storytelling. As for acting, is it disheartening when you don’t get called back for a character you know you can bring to life? Yeah.

Downhearted when you’re not even getting called into the room to audition? Ah-huh. Is it heartbreaking when you are so close to booking your dream role and it goes to another actress? It sure is and I’ve learned to trust that they weren’t mine to breath in. I stay curious and continue to ask myself, “Is this it? What’s Next?” Create. Your. Own. Opportunities.

Tell us more about the business.
I am a film, television and theatre actress whose heart beats with fire. I am also co-founder of JTK Productions, an all-female production company dedicated to creating evocative and passion infused, intimate theatre in Los Angeles.

I am incredibly proud of JTK’s community of artists, fierce unstoppability and its Ovation nominated work.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I have had unlucky events happen and lucky breaks that didn’t work out, and in turn both were the luckiest in my life. I will share, the fella that brought me to that acting class back in Boston, I never saw or heard from again.

Is it luck that he came into my bar on a night I wasn’t scheduled to work and recommend I audit an acting class with him? Huh.
