Meet Toni Brooks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Toni Brooks.

Toni, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It all started with my business not surviving the failing economy in the mid-2000’s which led to a bout with homelessness and me making a decision, as an entrepreneur, to look for a job. I invite you to listen to my SUE speech, where I provide the audience a creative, anecdotal inside view to my story. –>

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not smooth at all, still experiencing bumps every now and then. Resilience found from knowing my life’s purpose is key! The organization was founded while in the midst of adversity… I was literally homeless when I unofficially started the organization.

Toni Brooks Foundation – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from others?
Toni Brooks Foundation (TBF) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization that helps anyone self-identifying as female professionally transition. We, of course, provide resume writing and mock interviews, however, we are truly known as the organization that gives shopping sprees of brand new, luxury apparel & inside/out makeovers. Starting with female veterans in transition, we have opened our program to domestic violence survivors and foster young adults. We are most proud of the amount of clothing we’ve distributed to date: $87,080 of brand new clothing has been distributed.

What sets us apart is the fact, as the Founder, I’ve personally experienced what our program participants are experiencing. Serving as the Executive Director, I am personally writing the programs because I’ve been there. Additionally, our organization is powered by the fashion industry. Having spent over 20 years in the industry as a Fashion Stylist,  Boutique owner & Fashion Show Producer, I’ve brought along industry  friends and practices to create a unique, high fashion experience for program participants. They are respectfully treated as the stars we know they are. Here’s a link to our latest documentary produced by 60-sec docs which contributed to the recently awarded Webby award.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Being able to tell our story on the STEVE platform (Steve Harvey’s morning talk show). This experience has helped us connect with so many which lead to us servicing a larger amount of women who need us. –>
