Meet Tommy Anderson of San Diego

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tommy Anderson.

Hi Tommy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
So I’m a filmmaker working on my very first feature film, entitled “Play It Cool,” and as an independent filmmaker knows, every movie is like starting a company from scratch. In some areas, it’s even more difficult because at the end of the day, this is a movie that is as creative based as it is business based.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It’s been extraordinarily tough. Just as I was preparing to make my first feature, COVID hit and threw another wrench in an already extremely difficult process. Planning a 28-day shoot all by myself with over 20 locations was also extremely tough, as with a low budget, locations can eat up the costs quick. Writing with those limitations in mind helped me narrow the story, but at certain points I wrote in locations that I had no idea if I could secure. Beyond that, locations changed their mind the day before shooting, our production vehicle broke down twice, our equipment vehicle got two flat tires within 30 minutes of each other, and we got a few days behind schedule the first week.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve been a filmmaker full time for about four years now. I’ve always dreamed of making feature films, and after making several short films, I’ve finally gone out and made my first feature. I was the writer, producer, caterer, casting director, and director on the film, so it was extremely difficult.

Anything else you’d like to share before we go?
One amazing thing about this film was the people that I was able to surround myself with. I had an amazing crew that helped me accomplish my vision, and we are already planning our next film. We hope to keep growing our movies to be bigger and better and one day gets a larger project financed.
