Meet Todd Bachenheimer of Gimme Shelter LA in Baldwin Hills

Today we’d like to introduce you to Todd Bachenheimer.

Todd, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, I’ve always been inspired by the city’s incredible array of distinctive architecture and cultural diversity. Growing up in the local art, music and fashion scene, I have a passion for design and architecture.

Prior to my professional entry into the L.A. real estate market, I spent 20 years as a fashion and product design director, consulting for some of the world’s most recognizable brands, including Fitbit, Polo Ralph Lauren and John Varvatos.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
My goal has been to utilize my past experience in design strategy, brand development and communications to seamlessly transition into my new real estate career.

Tell us more about your business.
Having skillfully found success in my own personal real estate investments, I combine a deep understanding across a variety of disciplines and now focus on architectural sales, residential design direction and renovation.

Our latest design and renovation project (with my wife, Christine Hsu, who has a film background) was the Oscar House. Nestled in the Baldwin Hills, this mid-century “Post & Beam” was built in 1955. The original owner was Harmon Oscar Nelson, a film composer best known for being the inspiration for legendary actress Bette Davis’ claimed nickname of the Academy Award statuette “Oscar.” Nelson was Bette Davis’ first husband. After winning the Best Actress Award for Dangerous, Davis remarked that the statue’s bum reminded her of Nelson’s, after getting out of the shower.

Our first priority is for our clients to achieve their dreams and build wealth through real estate. Always committed to advocating for our clients’ best interests, our business strategy is centered around building trust and maintaining client relationships that last a lifetime. Gimme Shelter LA has earned a reputation for having a tenacious work ethic, strong attention to detail, and most importantly, integrity

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
My partner is the renovation arm of the company is my wife, Christine Hsu, who has a professional background in film and graphic design.
