Meet Toby Gant of Shekhinah Holistic in Long Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Toby Gant.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always been a deeply spiritual person. As a child, my spirituality was expressed in a religious setting, since my parents had me in church at 8 days old. I always felt a deep spiritual connection to something much greater than my physical existence. Even in the religious context it wasn’t the rules and ritual but the connection to divine energy that captivated me.

I continued on the religious path well into my mid-twenties. I even attended a Christian college and graduate school. In my early twenties, I started to become aware that I was receiving specific, intuitive messages to share with others. This frightened me at first. I didn’t want to look foolish by telling strangers things that made no sense. Yet, my drive to share these messages was so strong.

I found validation over and over as I shared these messages. I came to realize that the messages did not originate within the finite, human part of me and that relieved the pressure I felt for the messages to accomplish anything.

I switched my plans to go to dental school and instead dove into graduate school for counseling and human development. I also soon realized that my connection with divine energy and my understanding of my soul purposes didn’t quite fit into any religious setting,

Over time, I studied yoga, explored meditation, and became a certified holistic life coach. On a yoga retreat in Bali I was clearly guided to start my holistic coaching business. The day I left Bali my first 2 clients were practically handed to me on a silver platter. One was a fellow retreat participant and the other a gentleman seated next to me on the flight out of Bali.

When I arrived home from that trip I asked divine guidance for a business name. I was just in the process of sitting down to meditate when the word “Shekhinah” came through loud and clear. I didn’t know what it meant but was pleasantly surprised to learn that it means “the presence of God on earth or a symbol or manifestation of divine
presence.”

I understood that a big part of my work involves connecting others with this divine presence and guidance. I do this without any religious or dogmatic agenda. I simply believe that we are all capable of tapping in to this energy. Intermediaries, such as priests and shamans, are wonderful and serve incredible purposes, yet are not required for one to connect.

As a soul coach, I help my clients connect with their soul path, i.e. their purposes for being on Earth. Once they feel clear on their purposes I help activate them into their power and gifts. I also serve as a catalyst to propel them forward and release excuses.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
One of my biggest challenges was overcoming self-limiting beliefs. For the longest time, I didn’t fully believe in my power to create and shape my own reality. As such, I would often get stuck in a complaining loop. Over time, I came to see how my consistent thoughts and words shaped my experience. I’m a believer now and I am very mindful of my thought patterns and words.

I also had to overcome a lot of judgement. Judgement was a large part of my upbringing. My family and religion taught a great deal about God’s judgement. I also judged myself harshly. In seeing my truth through meditative prayer, I have released so much of this. I continue to release judgement towards those I felt judgement from.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Shekhinah Holistic – what should we know?
Through my business, Shekhinah Holistic, I offer a variety of services and events to help my clients tune in to their unique soul plan and develop their innate gifts. My specialty is soul coaching. It is non-religious, yet deeply spiritual life coaching. I work with my clients for a few sessions or extended periods of time, depending on their desire for intuitive development and soul plan activation. For my clients engaged in creative projects I serve as a muse to bounce ideas off of and get intuitive feedback.

The thing that sets me apart from many life coaches is the spiritual/intuitive aspect I bring to my work. I connect with my intuitive guidance to help my clients with challenges they face. I also help them listen to and trust their own intuitive guidance. I realize that my style isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. For those on a spiritual journey or the spiritually curious my work often strikes a resonant chord.

I also offer a variety of workshops and day retreats, as well as private yoga. I have a retreat coming up in Hawaii in October designed to help participants connect with their personal source of life, abundance, creativity, and guidance. I also do frequent day workshops in the LA area, some hosted in my private meditation garden space.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
There are many who have helped me along this path. I may not see eye-to-eye with my deeply religious parents but I am so grateful for the spiritual foundation they provided me. I am deeply grateful to my first yoga teacher, Greg “Goyo” Fawley. Through yoga, he inspired in me a passion to strengthen the body and spirit simultaneously. Tracee Stanley provided my in-depth yoga teacher training journey and continues to be a beacon of strength and steadfast wisdom. My dear friend Benji Thrasher continuously shows me how spirituality and entrepreneurship are not mutually exclusive and can actually sync up beautifully.
