Today we’d like to introduce you to Timisha Turner.
Timisha, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My story started when I was an 18-year-old expecting mother. Although at the time I wasn’t anywhere near where I wanted or needed to be, I knew I had to get myself in order so that I could provide the best life possible for my child.
With this in mind, I made the decision to drop out of college to pursue a career. I was blessed with my very first “real” job at One United Bank on Crenshaw and King. I’ve never been one to settle when it came to my career, so after working for various companies in different capacities, I finally landed a job where my professional life took off. I held several roles in management and vowed that I would use that platform to encourage others to reach their full potential when it came to their professional goals. I wanted people, especially African-American women and men, to know that they are just as valuable and capable of reaching the top as anyone else. That the stigmas and biases placed on us in the corporate world don’t have to limit our ability to be successful. I did it, without a degree, without compromising my integrity, without selling my soul, and so can you! This was the motivation behind The Career Girl.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has definitely not been easy. Being the overthinking perfectionist that I am, I felt that I needed to have everything laid out for my business. Like I needed the whole package in order for it to feel or look right. Doing this interview is a big step for me! I don’t know what to expect. I’m not afraid to admit that success scares me! I don’t often think about failing. I’m always thinking to myself, “What if your business takes off, could you live up to the expectations you’ve set?” This is my biggest struggle to date. Luckily, I am blessed to have a tribe of supportive family and friends who keep me motivated and encouraged.
The Career Girl – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?

I am most proud of the companies unique approach to developing careers. We truly believe that each person’s professional journey is different and strive to meet the individual expectations of the clients we serve. This belief is what sets us apart from other similar services.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career is seeing others succeed. Like, that genuinely makes me happy! I wholeheartedly believe that you bring as many people as you can to the top with you. No one gets left behind unless they want to stay there!
