Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Edwards.
Tim, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always been an artist. Ever since I can remember I was drawing and my dad was very supportive. After a while, I started playing the guitar. Playing along with the radio, my CD’s, and writing my own songs.
After 20+ years of playing everywhere in southern California, music in general became a huge disappointment. One day, I quit cold turkey. After watching a documentary on music photographer Mick Rock, I knew that’s what I wanted to do. Continue being a fan of music and supporting the scene in a creative way.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not smooth at all! Dedicating 20+ years of your life to a craft that constantly let you down put me in a sort of depression for a month or two.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Music Motion – what should we know?
The company specializes in music/concert/performance photography. The name The Music Motion is inspired by my early pictures. They were blurry and some were out of focus, capturing the “motion” of the performer.
What makes me proud of what I do in the company is showcasing the talent in the Orange County area. LA tends to get a bulk of the attention so it’s great to see that my hometown area has just as much music.
Networking is vital as well. The musicians and artists I meet end up introducing me to their friends who are artists and a relationship is born.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Kindness, professionalism, being punctual, and carry a HUGE stack of business cards.
