Meet Tiara Imani

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tiara Imani.

Hi Tiara, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Creativity has always been at the forefront of who I am. My earliest creative moments that I can recall have always come from music. If you asked me what I wanted to be when I got older it was always, “a singer”.

Home is really where I got started, singing in the car, getting together with my cousins to write songs and perform for the family, talent shows, theatre, and choir. You name it, if I could learn more about and get a chance to utilize my voice, I was all in! My dad would always make beats in whatever equipment we had at home and ask me what I thought and just always played this role in both intentionally and unintentionally pushing me towards music, whether that be through lessons or just our interactions as dad and daughter.

After college, I had not only modeled professionally but also had ventured into creating my own content behind the camera, both film and photo. I had no idea how important those skills would become to my music career until I started working with other artists and just through experiences and the grace of God I’ve made it here.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t think any path in this life is smooth, so no it has not been. I’ve had to get used to rejection, at times play a backseat when I didn’t want to, I’ve had to fail, cry, lose people, learn the importance of knowing the business itself, and understand that everyone won’t like me, nor do they always have my best interest in mind, and in the midst of it, all find in love for what I do to keep going and creating authentically. The music business isn’t a kind one, but along the way you do find kind people to share great experiences with.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My name is Tiara Imani and I am an R&B artist, singer, songwriter, director, and all-around creative. I am definitely most known for my music and right now I would say that my most proud accomplishment is the EP that I released last year, CYCLES.

I am so proud that CYCLES is my first body of work. It was built with such a deep purpose and honesty that represents who I was, who I am, and who I’m becoming.

CYCLES received editorial playlist placements on multiple platforms, it charted in 10 countries on the iTunes R&B charts, and one of my favorite tracks from the project, “Flowers”, was selected by Apple Music as one of the best new songs. Not only that, but CYCLES introduced me to a lot of the amazing people who are now such an important part of my music journey.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
One of the most important lessons that I have learned is the power that both nourishing and releasing relationships can have. Being genuine and reaching out with a purpose has helped me in ways I couldn’t imagine until it came to fruition and honoring when it is time to let go of relationships that are not pushing me or my career in the right direction has been equally rewarding.
