Meet Tia Hollingsworth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tia Hollingsworth.

Tia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My love of fashion began when I was a child. Fashion magazines were my escape beyond my environment. The visuals provided me with an alternative to the world I was in and let me escape. In high school when I was asked what I wanted my career to be when I grew up I knew it was in fashion. My mother worked an occupation that provided for us financially which I always admired and wanted for myself too, but I also wanted more. I wanted a purpose, which is why I went to the art institute of Fort Lauderdale for fashion marketing at first. I then switched to fashion design. At it turns out though, I didn’t finish my degree.

Has it been a smooth road?
No the road has not been a smooth at all but what made it easier was when I realized that true success comes from within. When I win within the road opens up and things manifest for me.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m a photographer and I’m known for having created my own world, an ethereal one if you will. I have a keen eye for fashion, particularly vintage. I like to create a world that brings the best out of both the model and me. You’ll see in my photos a level of intimacy that comes from connecting with the model and the world we are in. I give strong direction on poses and help the model show their best side. People tell me I know how to capture women and show their shining light. I like to match each model to the location and the pieces that they were, I am big on attention to detail and creating this ethereal bliss that we live in for the shoot and which pops out in my photos. I am proud of the fact so many models reach out to work with and want to collaborate and create and be a part of my world.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love that Los Angeles is diverse in experiences. I truly feel as though there is a space for everyone here. It may not be visible on initial contact but given the time and the effort to explore you will find it. On the other hand, I am from the southeast and accustomed to small-town vibes and in LA the values are different to what I’m used to.
