Today we’d like to introduce you to Thyrone Lewis.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
The Cubby Podcast began like any other social disruptor. With several like-minded individuals coming together consciously and ideally to make a unique impact via an artistic medium. The only difference is it began in a 700 sq ft apartment with one microphone, a dedicated cast, and an over eager host.
The Cubby is as a safe space for minorities in Orange County. Gary Plather, Russell Cornin II, Canon Thomas and Jamie Wright used our time together to fellowship, talk business opportunity and demanding social pressures of the corporate world, Not to mention, the plethora of viewpoints from our personal lives. The Cubby blossomed into something every young millennial can identify with. Utilizing our montra: Love is Love. Facts…Let’s Talk About it.
Comprised of 5 men native to urban cities across the country (New York, New Orleans, Miami, and Detroit). We all share our perspectives on the social status quo, professional nuances and personal similarities on the podcast. We keep it realer than most relationship status’ these days. FACTS!
The mentioned three principles can be found as a thread throughout our episodes and we are happy it has brought us this far. The Cubby Cast is grateful for that.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road to where we are now, I would not call it smooth at all. In this day and age with all the media attention and marketing campaigns that are forced on to young people. It is pretty hard to find a hook that will appeal to the masses. So not only is being recognized difficult but staying consistent enough for people to enjoy our content.
All we want to do is showcase that young African American men could make a difference in an area where they aren’t represented.
We do everything ourselves from production to marketing to outreach to events. It is a homegrown shop and The Cubby Cast is proud of that.

We are most proud of the reception we’ve received from the people. We typically get various viewpoints on items we’ve mentioned on the podcast. Even though, sometimes we don’t remember what we said…it is cool for listeners to take a stance and begin a relationship with a cast member through their dedicated listening.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Playing Basketball in the streets of Long Island, New York. Waving cars down and telling them to hurry up and drive. I needed another bucket before I headed home.
